Job overview

Pimlico Academy is currently recruiting for an inspiring and experienced individual to lead the school. This is a rare and rewarding opportunity, and the successful applicant will have the unique chance to direct their passion and drive into improving the (already very good) educational outcomes and life chances of the school’s young people, many of whom are from disadvantaged backgrounds, onto even greater success.

Rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, Pimlico Academy is one of London’s foremost state secondary academies. Based in leafy Pimlico, a stone’s throw from the Houses of Parliament, this oversubscribed school provides a nurturing and aspirational environment. The school, with its enviable and modern facilities and its excellent academic reputation, caters to Westminster’s thriving multicultural community.

Pimlico Academy is the flagship school of Future Academies, a pioneering multi-academy trust founded in 2008 with the aim of combatting educational inequality and social injustice. At the core of Future Academies’ vision is the belief that all students can succeed and excel when given the right opportunities. All Future Academies schools are centred upon: a first-rate knowledge-rich curriculum, based upon the principles of cultural literacy; a bespoke education enrichment programme and a vibrant range of extra-curricular activities; and enthusiastic subject-specialist teachers who are both deeply passionate and knowledgeable about their chosen disciplines as well as about the school’s social and educational mission. Future Academies’ innovative and research-led Curriculum Centre, as well as its highly regarded, ‘Outstanding’-rated teacher training programme (the Pimlico-London SCITT), are also based at the academy.

Future Academies has recently expanded to include nine schools. The current Principal of Pimlico Academy, Samantha Green, has been promoted to the role of Executive Principal. Therefore, the trustees and governors of Pimlico Academy now seek an outstanding individual to take over the baton of the school’s leadership. The next Principal will lead a dynamic school with very high academic standards and aspirations. We welcome applications from both the maintained and the independent school sectors, but the successful candidate will have:

  • A strong academic background;
  • A passion for learning and scholarship;
  • A firm belief in the power of education to transform the lives of young people, regardless of background;
  • A proven ability to inspire and motivate both staff and students, raising their aspirations and academic standards even further.

About Pimlico Academy

Pimlico Academy is a mixed ability non-fee paying school for 11-19 year olds. The academy opened in September 2008 and is sponsored by Future Academies. The academy became an all-through school, 3 to 19, from September 2013 when the first Reception class started at our on-site primary school, Pimlico Primary.

The academy has improved rapidly since taking over from the predecessor school and was judged good by Ofsted in December 2021. The percentage of students achieving 5 GCSE 9 -4 grades with Maths and English has improved from 36% to 69%. 90% of students achieved A*-C at A Level in 2016.

The distinguishing factor at Pimlico is our determination to provide pupils with the same standard of education that is on offer at the best independent schools and to ensure all pupils leave the academy as culturally literate young adults. The academy’s sponsor has established The Curriculum Centre to develop and implement a knowledge-based curriculum. We have an excellent Raising Aspirations programme, extensive extra-curricular provision, academic intervention tutors and a wide array of support to enable students to reach their potential.

We employ only very well-qualified staff who are committed to knowledge-rich education and embody a determination to ensure every pupil at Pimlico is hardworking, articulate, literate, ambitious, independent, confident, courteous and compassionate.
