Job overview

The position of a PYP Teacher teacher reports to the Head of Early years or Lower School campus. The teacher is required to create a caring, positive and supportive learning environment, engaging and encouraging students to grow, build their independence and practise their developing skills in a meaningful context. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering teaching and learning to Early Years or Lower Primary students with a range of different abilities and capabilities.

Essential Requirements:

  • Fully Qualified Teacher with relevant degree in Early Education, BEd, PGDE (Primary) or PGCE;
  • Experience teaching using the EYFS framework and/or the PYP (applicants with extensive experience using other similar curricula will be considered);
  • Commitment to the values and approaches of an International Baccalaureate education;
  • A consistent commitment to high levels of pastoral care;
  • Fluent verbal and written communication skills in English;
  • Ability to be flexible in an ever-changing world of education;
  • Positive and innovative mindset even in challenging situations;
  • Expectations of high standards of learning and behaviour from students; and the ability to challenge and support all students on an individual basis;
  • A willingness to contribute to the wider school community;
  • Caring nature towards students and families;
  • Compliant with Child Safeguarding Requirements.


 Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience with using Toddle & Seesaw;
  • Have obtained an IB qualification (Y1&2 Teachers);
  • Confidence in creating and using both formative and summative to assess progress.


Responsibilities:

  • Promote and model the Brookes ideals and mission, along with our three pillars: Creativity, Character and Connectivity;
  • Plan, prepare and teach challenging and engaging lessons through transdisciplinary learning (PYP classes);
  • Support children as they inquire and learn through play-based activities (see our approach to learning: https://savvin.brookes.ru/curriculum/our-approach/);
  • Establish and maintain high-quality, stimulating classroom play environments;
  • Take the lead from Programme Coordinators with regards to unit planning, assessments and recording evidence of learning, using the Toddle and Seesaw platforms;
  • Provide personal care for our youngest children, including serving meals, supporting nap/quiet time and any hygiene requirements to keep our students comfortable, healthy and safe;
  • Provide student feedback on a regular basis;
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with parents and carers, including reporting on pupil progress and attainment, and updating parents;
  • Promote a safe working environment for students and staff, including inside and outside duties with a high level of awareness of children all around you;
  • Encourage students to use the Learner Profile whilst in class and throughout the school;
  • Maintain excellent knowledge of the PYP Programme and a commitment to its effective implementation;
  • Contribute to the wider school community.
