An opportunity has arisen for an imaginative Reading Intervention Specialist to join our literacy team. This is a fantastic time to join a supportive, forward-thinking and successful Academy. 

Biddick Academy is a good school (Ofsted, 2021) conveniently situated 10 minutes’ drive from Newcastle and Durham. The Academy enjoys an excellent reputation within the local community and is consistently oversubscribed year-on-year. We are seeking to appoint a colleague who shares our passion for learning and our determination to change lives through the education we provide. Our curriculum is founded on the core values of resilience, curiosity, aspiration, and readiness.

Our Reading Intervention Specialist takes a key role in the daily running of the library and works with small groups of students to drive engagement and progress in reading. The library is based in the English Faculty and you will be supported by a wider team across the Academy in promoting a love of reading. We are seeking to appoint a creative, innovative and aspirational colleague to join our team.

The successful candidate will:

· Have a love of reading;

· Have a genuine desire for students to succeed;

· Be uncompromising in their high expectations of students;

· Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

· Have the ability to engage and inspire pupils and build excellent relationships.

Biddick Academy is a co-educational secondary school based in Washington, near Sunderland, for students aged 11-16. 

In 1997, Biddick was one of the first 11 schools in England to become a specialist sports college. The academy’s facilities include a sports hall, a dance studio, a fitness suite, a gymnasium, a full-size 3G pitch, floodlit tennis courts, a theatre and ICT suites.
