Job overview

We fully appreciate that happy teachers make great teachers and this is what we want for our loved community of children. We are a split-site, four form entry school based in Thamesmead (1 form entry) and Charlton (3 form entry). We have been graded as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted for the last 12 years. These vacancies are for either site.

We have worked hard and provided a safe and engaging atmosphere for our children to learn and thrive.

Why would you want to work at Windrush? We offer:

• children that are well-behaved and have a clear understanding of the robust behaviour policy that is in place, which is fully supported by all staff

• comprehensive CPD opportunities for teachers looking to enhance skills or teachers looking for career progression in an expanding academy

• a school that holds staff well-being in the highest regard

• an innovative marking policy that cuts marking down and has huge impact on the children’s lives – we call it live marking. Marking is performed as an intervention – effecting change in the children’s work immediately

• collegiate atmosphere with joint insets, joint PPA and joint staff meetings being held across both sites - Thamesmead and Charlton

• being part of an extended year group that shares planning and ideas four ways, thus ensuring that teachers are fully supported and can spend the most amount of time making better lessons for our children

• high staff morale with two schools work together as one; the Windrush family

• a focus on the impact education has on our children with no formal observations, but more casual drop-ins to support with outstanding everyday practice

• onsite parking and a short walk from the local train station with a well-served bus stop directly outside.

If you would like to find out more about our school or to arrange a visit please contact Donna Corrigan at dcorrigan@windrush.greenwich.sch.uk or call 020 8836 9710 to arrange an appointment.

Closing Date: Wednesday 15th April 2020  - 12pm

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted to arrange a telephone/skype interview due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Windrush Primary School is a mainstream academy school for children aged 3-11, situated in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, London. In September 2012, Windrush Primary School expanded, opening a second site in Charlton to add to the Thamesmead site. Ninety Reception pupils were welcomed to the Charlton school, and 90 pupils now join in each year.

Although Windrush Primary School is split across two sites, both hold dear to the same values and high expectations. In 2013, Ofsted rated the school as outstanding, a status it has held since 2007.

Executive headteacher

Jo Marchant

Values and vision

Windrush Primary School aims to maintain a warm, welcoming, caring and happy school community in which all pupils feel valued and have a strong sense of personal achievement. Teachers promote the highest academic standards and good communication through the whole school community. The values are summarised as: happiness and enjoyment; politeness, kindness and caring; respect and tolerance; effort, attitude and perseverance; high standards of behaviour; partnership; honesty, fairness and trustworthiness.

Windrush Primary School promotes the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

Ofsted report

“The aspirational leaders and managers, including governors, have secured high achievement for pupils and outstanding teaching over many years. These continue to improve as the school expands. Standards in reading, writing and mathematics are well above those of most schools nationally. All pupils make exceptional progress, many from starting points which are low. Teaching and learning are outstanding. Parents and carers at both sites are unanimous in their praise of the school.”
