Description The Manning Region of Catholic Schools are seeking a temporary part-time Regional Aboriginal Education Worker 12 hours per week or Regional Aboriginal Education Teacher FTE: 0.2 (1 day per week) to work across the regional schools, commencing in Term 2 following the selection process. This position is an important part of an innovative plan to build the Cultural capacities within and across each school and to support a curriculum of high academic expectations with a particular focus on our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The successful applicant will report to the principal in the school they are based.

The Manning Region is situated on the Mid-North coast of New South Wales, on the land of the Worimi and Biripi nations. The region has 5 primary schools including St Joseph’s Taree, St Joseph’s Wingham, St Joseph’s Gloucester, St Joseph’s Bulahdelah and Holy Name Forster. Our students attend St Clare’s High School in Taree. Originally founded by the Sisters of St Joseph, the schools pride themselves on providing a Catholic option for education. Our schools employ Aboriginal Education Workers and Teachers within each school to support the development of a rich cultural and academic curriculum for students.



The position base can be negotiated at Interview stage between Biripi or Worimi country.
Position Requirements The Regional Aboriginal Education Worker or Regional Aboriginal Education Teacher will play an important role in collaborating with and between the staff of the Manning Region Catholic Schools. Working closely with the Principals of each school, the Regional Aboriginal Education Worker/Regional Aboriginal Education Teacher position aims to strengthen connections with and between the families, schools and the Biripi and Worimi communities, assist in building the Cultural capacity of staff and to engage in developing plans to meet the academic needs of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Essential Criteria • Being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification for this position as described under section 14 (d) of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act, 1977. To ensure this qualification is considered, submission of corroborated acknowledgement of Aboriginality is welcomed.

• Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic Education and to actively supporting the Catholic ethos and culture of the school

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with school staff, CSO Education Officers and members of the wider community to establish productive partnerships and achieve educational outcomes

• Demonstrate an innovative and agile mindset that supports and enhances a culture of continuous improvement in schools and/or across a region of schools

• Evidence of excellent communication, organisational and administrative skills

• Demonstrated capacity to reflect critically within the role and a commitment to ongoing professional learning

• Demonstrated capacity and willingness to lead others in learning

• The applicant must provide evidence of the following:
- Current Paid Working with Children Check
- Completion of Anaphylaxis training
Desirable Criteria • Demonstrated ability to utilise data to achieve goals

• Qualifications and/or experience relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education and/or cultural settings. This is inclusive of being able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Worimi and Biripi cultures, histories, and contemporary educational issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
