Job overview

As a Residential Support Worker, you’ll have a challenging but fulfilling job. Working with vulnerable young people in our residential school, you’ll provide them with personalised care and create a calm, safe living environment. That involves planning social and leisure activities, giving counselling and escorting children on activities, but most importantly creating a home during terms time!

Experience isn’t essential, but you must have the ability to build a rapport with young people. In many cases, our residents’ behaviour can be difficult or challenging. That means you’ve got to be very patient, calm and resilient. You should also be ready to study for a Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England) (if you don’t have this or an equivalent already). In the meantime, we’ll give you outstanding training to help you do your best. In return you’ll need to be happy to work flexible hours, including some sleep-in duties and to have a full UK driving licence.

Oversands School is an independent, specialist residential and day school in rural Cumbria, providing high quality education for girls and boys aged 8 to 19.  The school meets the needs of a diverse group of pupils with challenging behaviours, alongside a range of other associated conditions which can hinder academic progress.

For children and young people with complex, challenging needs, the level of care and education must go above and beyond. That’s what drives us, here at Witherslack Group. With our high staff-to-child ratio and in-house clinical teams, our children’s homes have a reputation for excellence. Through our inspirational homes, schools and ethos, we’ve achieved the highest possible outcomes. In short, we’re enhancing life opportunities.

Reward

Our salary and benefits package is among the best in our sector. It includes a competitive salary, contributory pension, comprehensive induction and ongoing training. We also offer extensive Group staff benefits, such as a Medicash Health Plan/Employee Assistance, Cycle to Work and tax free childcare vouchers. Witherslack conducts DBS Enhanced checks and covers the costs for all new employees.

Holidays

During term time, work 42.6 hours per week and receive full school holidays.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Helen Park – Office Manager on, 015395 52397.

The Witherslack Group is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its young people. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check. We are an equal opportunities employer welcoming applications from all sections of the community.
