School Counsellor - Part-Time (Maternity Cover)
We are seeking a highly motivated , enthusiastic and qualified School Counsellor to join our Pastoral team in the Senior School, working two days per week (0.4 FTE) on a maternity cover. This role will commence in September 2023, at the start of the new school year.
The School Counsellor will report to the Deputy Head (Pastoral) and will be a member of the Pastoral team which consists of the Head of School, Deputy Head (Pastoral), Designated Safeguarding Lead, Heads of KS3 and KS4, Head of Sixth Form, School Counsellors, and Learning Support Coordinator.
Key responsibilities
- To provide a high-quality counselling service to pupils experiencing a wide range of needs.
- To provide support, guidance and advice to parents, carers and the school.
- To observe confidentiality and to support the school’s endeavour to provide excellent teaching and learning for all pupils.
- Contribute to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare and personal care of children and young people.
Qualifications, knowledge and experience
- Relevant counselling qualification, minimum HBO level or equivalent international qualification.
- Experience with the needs of Senior School pupils and their families.
- Professional/personal characteristics
- The ability to develop and promote a positive relationship with pupils.
- Good interpersonal skills and strong listening and communication skills.
- A non-judgmental outlook and a willingness to work with all kinds of people.
- A sensitivity to the importance of cultural differences and international communities.
- To manage appropriate professional boundaries in the relationships with students and their families.
- A belief that all children are able to make positive changes.
- An understanding of confidentiality issues.
- An ability to cope with emotional situations and to remain calm under pressure.
- An innovative, enthusiastic, energetic and flexible approach.
- Collaborative working style and strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and manage own workload.
- Professional desire to keep up to date with development in the field of counselling.
- Fluency in both spoken and written English. A working knowledge of Dutch would be an advantage.
As a School Counsellor, monthly supervision sessions are provided.
