Primary objective:

Provide psycho-educational support and assistance to families and school communities with a principal focus on students with disabilities, but also including support for students with behavioural, social and emotional learning needs, to enable their participation in appropriate educational programs in a range of school and community settings.

Context statement:

Student Wellbeing and Inclusion works collaboratively with schools, students and their families to strengthen a whole of system approach to assist students to develop into healthy, resilient young people who can maximise their learning opportunities and wellbeing. Student Wellbeing and Inclusion is part of Early Years and Education Services, which is focused on quality teaching and ensuring all children and students (from birth to Year 12) can learn to their potential. The School Psychologist is part of a multi-disciplinary team of specialist advisory teachers and allied health professionals who work with other service providers from government and non-government agencies.

Key duties and responsibilities:

Work in consultation with families, schools, agencies and multidisciplinary teams to identify special educational needs and design suitable and inclusive individual programs. Provide professional support (E.g. assessment, advice, counselling, resources and/or professional development) that enhances the wellbeing of individuals, groups, families, school communities and other agencies, in cross-cultural and multilingual contexts and according to the Australian Psychological Society’s Code of Ethics. Manage an allocated caseload and participate in individual case conferences and ensure adequate records are maintained and Early Years and Education Services protocols and processes are adhered to. Participate in the development and implementation of relevant policies, procedures and projects supporting mental health.

Selection criteria:

Essential:

1. General registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency. Possess a current Working with Children Clearance notice. 

2. Recent school experience relevant to this position with demonstrated knowledge, qualifications, skills and potential to provide psycho-educational services incorporating assessment, diagnosis and intervention programs for students with disabilities, behavioural, social and emotional learning needs along with provision of professional learning including online learning for school communities.

3. Demonstrated ability to operate effectively within a team environment, including participation in systemically provided supervision.

4. Demonstrated ability to establish positive working relations with people from diverse professional, cultural and linguistic backgrounds

5. Demonstrated ability to use data to inform decision making, provide input to the development and implementation of relevant policies, procedures and projects.

Office-based conditions apply to this position. Visits to remote schools may necessitate travel by 4x4 vehicle on unsealed roads or light aircraft and include overnight stays in remote communities of up to four days.
