Job overview

Tes is supporting the appointment of a Science Teacher at a special needs school based in Staffordshire.

Through your knowledge and passion, you will have a real impact on the lives of the school's young people. Taking responsibility for their learning, you will motivate them, inspire them and help them develop the skills they need for an incredible future.

The school is currently undergoing development and increasing its pupils numbers transitioning from 30 pupils to 60 pupils recently and with approval to open an Early Years Unit and extend their Primary provision.

The school is purpose built, modern and welcoming with a range of specialist learning areas including an indoor and outdoor riding school and outdoor gymnasium. Children also have the opportunity to work with horses, donkeys, goats, alpaca and chickens. Learning outside of the classroom is a fundamental part of life at the school. They have a dedicated staff team who are focused on the delivery of high quality, child centred, bespoke packages of care and education.

The role

As a dynamic and motivated Science Teacher to the school's KS3 and KS4 students, you already have a passion for making a difference in the lives of children and young people. In this role, you will have every opportunity to live up to this ambition, responding to the needs of individuals with autism, learning difficulties and complex needs, helping them flourish and thrive.

You will plan and deliver engaging learning on a daily basis, developing exciting and innovative methods that stimulate interest and excitement in the classroom. Working as a Science Teacher with this school is not your average teaching role. You are able to work creatively, making the most of all the extensive resources and expert support they have available.

Their class sizes are small, so you are able to create a nurturing learning environment designed around each individual’s needs, spending quality time with each pupil. You will observe, monitor and assess them, making sure their personal development and wellbeing are as important as the academic curriculum.

Who the school are looking for

You will be a passionate Science Teacher and a great communicator, as comfortable talking to children and young people with autism, learning difficulties and complex needs as you are with contributing to the schools vision and direction.

You will enjoy building caring relationships as well as liaising with fellow professionals, whether they are colleagues in the same school or they work in the children’s previous educational establishments.

You will have excellent written English skills too, along with a passion for working in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team, sharing information in both formal and informal situations.

Why join the school?

  • They are a values driven organisation that puts people first
  • They provide continuous professional development to take your career further
  • Their accredited training programmes include diplomas and NVQs
  • Their innovative Careers Pathway programme lets you plan your own incredible future
  • They create strong communities around the school, and you will be part of an amazing team
  • They invest in your future and nurture your career
  • A great social events calendar
  • The 'Your Wellbeing Matters' initiative provides total support
  • Their Employees Rewards Hub offers great rewards such as discount vouchers and money off gym memberships
