Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a science technician who will support the practical and technical aspects of the science curriculum by preparing, providing, maintaining, organising and managing the resources required for the appropriate practical activities to be carried out by staff and students. We are looking for the successful applicant to work 30 hours per week and in term time only.

Some of your time may be spent preparing the GCSE and A Level Chemistry practicals so although not essential, it would be advantageous to have some knowledge of these.

Essential:

• Relevant science-based qualifications or experience

• Happy to work alone as well as part of a busy team

• Willingness to learn new things

• Good ICT skills

• Adaptable to the many various tasks that the role entails

• Excellent interpersonal skills and listening skills with a commitment to helping

• Able to react knowledgeably in potentially hazardous situations

• Keen interest in keeping up to date with current best working practices

Preferred:

• Previous experience of working in a school science prep room or a science lab

• Knowledge of GCSE and A Level Chemistry practical requirements

Knights Templar School is a very successful school, sitting at the heart of the community in Baldock, Hertfordshire.  Students’ results are good and improving and behaviour is excellent.  The school is highly regarded locally, being regularly oversubscribed.   We receive in the region of 600 applications for 210 Year 7 places each year.

In line with our school motto, we recognise the importance of developing and providing all our students with the courage, confidence and communication skills they require to flourish and succeed, but also to promote traditional values of courtesy, respect and good discipline.

Students of all abilities achieve well and make good progress. Young people have an excellent attitude to learning. They enjoy school and want to succeed. Examination results at GCSE and A level are consistently good. Attainment and Achievement are strong. In 2022, 70% of students achieved English and Maths at grade 4 or above and 52% achieved English and Maths at grade 5 or above. 2022 results will continue our pattern of whole school positive progress 8. The School has a large and strong Sixth form, most progress on to University degree courses, including places at Oxford or Cambridge.
