Salary: D (9 - 11) Actual Salary £18,106 - £18,838 (Full Time Equivalent £20,344 - £21,166).

Contract: Part time (37 hours per week) Permanent basis.

Contract start date ASAP.

Application Noon Friday 27 March.

Interview date Week beginning 30th March.

We are looking for a Science Technician to work in our busy Science Department. The person appointed will work with one other technician in addition to prepare materials for use in lessons by our teaching staff. The successful candidate will be able to offer assistance across the three science specialisms, if required. Technicians also provide support through the collection of assessment data, preparation of worksheets and other administrative tasks, many of which require some understanding of standard Microsoft software (Word, etc.).

The Science technicians will be under the day-to-day leadership of the Subject Leader of Science.

The Science department occupies one corridor of our building. There are ten laboratories, which can pose some logistical problems. There is also a greenhouse / prep room which the successful applicant will be expected to maintain. All laboratories are fully equipped and have built-in ICT access. In addition to the greenhouse room there are two well-equipped prep rooms and the laboratories are interconnected, thus avoiding the need to transport materials along the corridor. The department is very safety-conscious and it is expected that the successful applicant will also have a high regard for this aspect.

I have attached a person specification which sets out in summary form the ideal type of person we are looking for. However, we all know the world is not perfect, so please do not be deterred from applying if you think you can do a good job for us but you don’t fit the criteria exactly! Potential applicants should note that as the post will focus around work with young people, a full DBS check and medical check will be carried out before appointment can be confirmed. The successful applicant will also be required to undertake training in the academy’s safeguarding procedures on appointment.

The successful candidate will:

• Prepare, deliver and clear away equipment and resources for lessons as requested by teachers.

• Maintain Department laboratories, equipment and resources  in an excellent working condition

• Notify problems with equipment and laboratories to line managers promptly

• Create and maintain all  department equipment and resources records

• Assist with, and sometimes lead, practical demonstrations for students

• Train department teaching staff in the use of resources and equipment

• Take into consideration all Health and Safety aspects when working and remain trained in all relevant H&S qualifications for the role

• Be calm, efficient, and highly organised, with the flexibility to work with other faculties on occasion across our school is essential.

The Academy On 1st March 2017 Rye Hills became part of Nunthorpe Multi Academy Trust which evolved from Nunthorpe Academy, a local good secondary academy.

With the growth of Nunthorpe Multi Academy Trust, Rye Hills is at an exciting point in its development.  Successful candidates will have a wealth of opportunities to support this growth and raise standards, with the added opportunities which being part of a multi-academy trust enables.

Rye Hills is a popular 11-16 academy, with approximately 900 students on roll.  The academy is situated on an attractive, modern site on the outskirts of Redcar, in the North East of England.

If you have any questions about the post please contact Mr Chris Paleschi - Head of Science 01642 484269.

If you fit the bill we would be interested in hearing from you.
