Science Technician

Start date:  23rd August 2021 

Full Time or part time| Term Time Only| Permanent 

Salary: NJC scale 8 incl London Weighting 

(£24,660 FTE, actual £21,372)

We are looking to recruit Science Technician on permanent, full-time or part time basis to provide technical support to our thriving science department which offers A Level courses in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Applied Science and the CTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering.

The successful candidate will be educated to a degree level in a science related subject.  Practical experience and a track record of working in a school or college environment would be highly advantageous. A confident and positive manner when supporting young people as well as excellent communication and organisational skills are essential. 

The role involves:

  • Preparing and clearing away materials, solutions and apparatus for practical classes and   carrying out demonstrations.
  • Basic construction and modification of apparatus
  • Maintaining equipment and teaching areas.
  • Supporting teachers in practical classes.
  • Stocktaking chemicals and equipment and ensuring safe storage.
  • Disposal of waste laboratory materials in accordance with H&S guidance.
  • Carrying out administrative tasks related to the smooth running of the department.
