Job overview

King’s College School, Wimbledon is one of the most successful schools in the UK, with outstanding academic results and first-class facilities.

We are seeking to appoint a Science technician to join the Science department from August 2021.  This is a term-time position plus some additional days during the school holidays.

The Science department consists of 20 laboratories with 19 full-time and 8 part-time members of teaching staff and 4 full-time technicians. The job involves working alongside the existing Science technicians to provide laboratory support for the teaching of IGCSE, International Baccalaureate (IB) and A Level science subjects.  Teamwork is an essential part of the role and while the successful candidate will initially be based in one department, over time they will be expected to move to others to gain further skills and help provide a flexible service.  Some experience of Physics, Biology or Chemistry laboratory techniques would be an advantage as would the ability to carry out equipment repairs and maintenance.  Keeping the laboratories, workshop, and storage areas clean, tidy and well organised is also a key element of the role.  Full training will be given.

Values and vision

Our school was founded in 1829 by Royal Charter as the junior department of the university, King’s College London, and as such, intellectual aspiration and a progressive spirit are our heritage.

Today, we offer an education of the whole person, in Mind, Spirit and Heart, the enduring ethos of our foundation. Our guiding mission is to look outwards, to the world beyond school, and to life at 25: we look to the lives we are preparing our young people to lead, so that when the time comes, they are ready to forge the pathway they choose, and to make a purposeful impact.

We aim for each of our pupils to enjoy an exhilarating adventure of learning and to pursue academic excellence within a fun, caring, welcoming environment. Academic outcomes at A level, IB and GCSE consistently place King’s amongst the very top schools nationally and globally.  Supporting our pupils to grow strong in spirit, in the shared values and qualities of character that will ground them, is equally important.
