The British School of Guangzhou (BSG) is the largest international school in Guangzhou. About The Secondary School

The Secondary School is dynamic, ambitious and rapidly growing! We currently have 350 students housed in a newly constructed building situated in a beautiful lakeside setting. Being personally, academically and socially ambitious, our students are an absolute delight and have a thirst for learning. They are taught by highly-skilled specialist teachers, as well having access to an incredible range of enrichment opportunities. As a consequence, our students flourish and excel on every level, from sporting and artistic achievement to stunning examination success:

About the role

The Head of Drama is a crucial member of the Middle Leadership Team. They lead the strategic and operational workings of their department and are given significant autonomy to oversee and successfully deliver on their departmental goals. They also have responsibility for directing the annual Secondary Production, which currently takes place in March. Last year saw the production of Sweeney Todd whilst this year we are looking forward to Grease!

  • In Key Stage 3, students have a double period of Drama per week.
  • In Key Stage 4, students follow the CIE Specification.
  • We currently do not run A Level Drama but are looking to introduce this. The current Year 11 group has indicated they would be keen to select this option and, given sufficient numbers, we will introduce A Level from August. We are, therefore, interested in hearing from candidates who are keen to take on this exciting challenge.

There is currently one other member of the Drama Department, who also teaches English. We are also looking to appoint a Dance Teacher who will be line-managed by The Head of Drama. The department have a newly built Drama teaching room as well as regular access to our 250-seater theatre.  All Subject Leaders have a dedicated Senior Line-Manager to support them in their role.
