Position Title: Secondary High School School IB MYP/DP Biology Teacher

Reports to: Secondary School Director

Position Description: Come join our dynamic and multicultural team! The Lycée Français de Chicago is currently looking for an experienced IB MYP and DP Biology teacher to teach biology at the high school level. 

The IB MYP / DP Biology Teacher has a strong knowledge of their field of study and shares their enthusiasm with students. They assess and record progress and prepare students for all kinds of grades and skills requirements. Furthermore, they link students’ knowledge to earlier learning and develop ways to encourage it further. They challenge and inspire students to help them deepen their knowledge and understanding.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, preparing and presenting lessons in biology that cater for the needs of the whole ability range within their class;
  • Motivating students  with enthusiastic, imaginative presentation;
  • Maintaining discipline;
  • Providing individual and small-group instruction that accommodates the needs of all students;
  • Preparing and evaluating work to facilitate positive student development;
  • Meeting requirements for the assessment and recording of students' development;
  • Communicating with parents and providing them with feedback on a student's progress during parents’ meetings;
  • Ensuring students follow up in liaison with the IB coordinator
  • Working with others to plan and coordinate work, working flexibly and close curriculum collaboration with colleagues;
  • Organizing and taking part in school events, outings and activities which may take place during weekends or in the evening;
  • Striving to maintain and improve professional competence;
  • Attending administrative meetings as needed;
  • Other related duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Ability to teach MYP Chemistry and Physics (one trimester each ) is a plus
  • The ideal candidate is a flexible, organized, and independent team player who is adept at multitasking.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred in biology, science, teaching or related field.
  •  At least three years of experience teaching biology  in an independent school at the middle school or high school level preferred.
  •  IB DP experience required. MYP experience and teaching certification preferred.
  • Appreciation of and sensitivity to cultural differences. Cross-cultural interests and/or experience in cross-cultural environments preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluent in English, with knowledge and understanding of the French language and culture a plus.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in solving problems, strong organizational and time management skills, and keen attention to detail, strong work ethic, and flexibility.

  • This position will be open beginning next school year with a start date of August 2022.
