PURPOSE

Provide an enhanced security service to the College. Key functions of the post include:

  • Protecting the College assets (buildings, equipment, resources) from malicious damage or theft, including supporting business continuity management;
  • Maintaining the health, safety and welfare of College employees, learners, visitors and customer by controlling and managing student behaviour, preventing unauthorised access, removing trespassers from the premises, protecting people from harm/injury, hazard spotting and reporting, removing hazards that may cause harm to others, coordinating safe evacuations, supporting the implementation of policies e.g. no smoking policy;
  • Managing ingress and egress to the campus and buildings, including pedestrians and vehicles;
  • Managing learner behaviour and managing out bad behaviour using a tactical approach to engage young people in a non-confrontational manner.
  • Developing a positive and supportive rapport with staff and learners
  • Undertaking regular patrols on College premises (leased and owned).

DUTIES

SECURITY

  • Control access to all premises through established systems including compliance with ID entry system. Any discrepancies should be noted on the Pro Monitor Database in order to record persistent offenders.
  • Undertake regular internal and external patrols of College premises (owned and leased) as specified in site procedures. Manage and report un-acceptable behaviour displayed by students, staff, visitors and customers.
  • Act as a visual deterrent to prevent disruptive and criminal behaviour e.g. shoplifting, bullying, drug dealing and taking, harassment, violence etc.
  • Control access to the inter-site and visitor car parks and monitor the usage of car parks.
  • Monitor driving and parking on campus and address dangerous driving incidents, recording details of illegal, dangerous and inconsiderate parking on campus and its environs.
  • Support catering staff with the monitoring of customer behaviour in retail outlets to prevent theft or harassment during busy periods.
  • Effectively monitor on site CCTV systems, and maintain records of use as required.
  • Support with the management and control of incidents involving staff, learners, customers and visitors as instructed and specified in procedures e.g. emergency evacuation, dealing with a hostile and challenging situation, business continuity management, managing road traffic accidents and making the area safe.
  • Escort cash movements across the College, providing vigilance and security to prevent injury and harm and to reduce the risk of theft.
  • Managing learner behaviour by developing a rapport with learners of all ages and abilities using a tactical approach to engage learners in a non-confrontational manner; enforcing the College code of conduct and following the College procedures in relation to Student Disciplinary.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Provide good customer service to College staff, students, visitors and customers, by assisting with queries, providing direction, supporting the enrolment process, supporting staff to manage student behaviour in the classroom.
  • Support the College to work towards the achievement of the Customer Service Excellent Standard and to maintain the standard.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • Prohibit any activities/omissions of learners, staff, visitors and customers that are likely to breach statutory health & safety legislation and place employees, learners, visitors and members of the general public at risk.
  • Marshal people and support the evacuation of buildings, during emergency evacuations. Marshalling traffic and people during events and major incidents.
  • Report hazards and defects using established procedures as specified by the Head of Facilities & Risk Management.
  • Enforce the No-Smoking Policy across College premises and contain smoking to designated areas.
  • Undertake regular Fire Alarm testing as specified in testing procedures, under the instruction of Health and Safety Officer.
  • Implement the accident investigatory procedure, as specified in the accident management plan, set out by the H&S Officer
  • Responsible for safeguarding the health, safety & welfare yourself, your colleagues and any other operative under your control.
  • Familiarise yourself with all risks assessments relevant to the post, as specified by your line manager and adhere to the risk assessment procedure of the organisation.
  • Report incidents, accidents and near misses in accordance with the organisational policies.
  • All activities of the post holder must comply with statutory health & safety legislation and the Colleges health and safety policy e.g. lone working policy, risk assessment policy etc.

SALARY SCALE: £18,522.32 per annum

HOURS OF DUTY: 45 hours per week (average, over 3 week rota) / 40 weeks per year.
