Job overview

The positive impact you can have on a young person’s life is most likely the reason you got into teaching in the first place. At Eagle House School (Bramley), that impact will be greater than you could have imagined.

Bramley provides outstanding schooling for vulnerable young people with a range of complex educational needs. Our sole aim is to support and re-engage our young people with learning, rebuilding the connections of childhood. Each young person’s set of needs requires a unique approach. Our teachers are there to channel their individual capabilities into academic success, as part of an holistic and uniquely supportive educational strategy – and all of this from a setting that is truly inspiring to both pupils and teachers.

Our large, picturesque campus is surrounded by woodland, with beautiful outdoor spaces and the school building itself is breath-taking. We are very much part of the community here in Walton-on-the-Hill, we are often found on the 10miles of cycle track, in the village Cafe or on our shuttle bus for staff from the local transport links (commutable from both Croydon and central London). Add to the fact that we’ve upgraded an historic village school into a bespoke specialist therapeutic provision and it all adds up to a truly uplifting, fun teaching environment.

Be Inspired

This is going to be an inspiring role for you, which is what makes it so exciting. It’s all about understanding what each pupil is particularly interested in and how they learn and are motivated. Then channelling those factors into the way you teach your subject so that every pupil gets the most out of them. Our vision is to inspire a sense of self-worth, ambition and belonging for every young person.

Everything we do is built on the foundation of our relationships with our young people. Young people are at the heart of every decision, every choice, every lesson, to give them the very best life chances as they approach adulthood.  The support you’ll receive in building those relationships is what separates Bramley from everyday schooling. It’s about much more than instilling pupils with the knowledge to get them through the exam. Of course, you’ll be their go-to person for their academic development but your impact on the moral, emotional and even spiritual development will be even more profound. By inspiring and engaging our young people, you’ll facilitate the kind of learning that continues after the end of the school day and stays with them throughout life.

As part of our ongoing development and expanding pupil numbers we are seeking an inspirational Primary teacher. You should have a strong background in early reading and be able to incorporate an early years, play-based curriculum into your work with our students.

As we expand our curriculum offer for our Secondary pupils we’re looking for a motivated and creative DT or Art specialist. Working with groups of around 5 pupils (including some primary groups) you’ll lead this area across our school, inspiring our young people to develop their creative and technical skills.

You’ll be working with young people from ages 6-14. It will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure, but whether you’ve given a particularly inspiring lesson or helped a pupil with a new challenge, you can expect to take home a sense of having done something amazing every single day. As all teachers know, some of those days may be harder than others but, at Bramley, you’re never alone. You’ll work as part of a supportive, diverse team who will catch you when you need some extra support and direction and be there when you need a helping hand.  You’ll work with other teachers across the school and Group as well as with our in-house psychologistsand therapy professionals. All pulling together to create the best possible outcomes for our pupils.

Be you

We’re looking for Specialist SEN Primary Teacher and Secondary Teacher with DT or Art specialism with a vision. The kind of person who wants to make a difference and knows the pathway that will allow them to do so. Someone who also wants to be part of the conversation when it comes to group decisions on how we, as a Group, best meet the needs of each child with regard to training, support and annual reviews.

Aware of the standards that Ofsted look out for and always conscious to exceed them, you’ll be the kind of teacher who is never anything but engaged and engaging. What’s more, you’ll be excited by the prospect of our small class sizes (up to 6) and will seize upon this as an opportunity to tailor learning to individuals and build stronger, more insightful teacher/pupil relationships. Empathetic, compassionate, creative and with a free ability to play, you’ll understand that our pupils’ journeys aren’t necessarily linear. If you haven’t worked in SEN before, but are enthusiastic and motivated to make the move, we’ll give you all the additional training and support you require.
