Job overview

Help make an Everyday Breakthrough happen by joining our team.

A breakthrough can seem like the smallest thing, but it can make the world of difference to someone on the autism spectrum. By becoming a SEN Teacher at The National Autistic Society you’ll help make Everyday Breakthroughs happen more often.

We are looking for a SEN Teacher in Vanguard School in Lambeth. You’ll be working with autistic children and their families in a school environment.

The NAS Academies Trust (NAS-AT) in partnership with Lambeth Local Authority is to establish a special free school (NAS Vanguard School) for autistic students. As with all NAS schools, the pedagogy will be informed by researched and established methods of best practice in teaching autistic young people.

NAS Academies Trust currently includes two other free school, Church Lawton School & Thames Valley School. It has been designated that Thames Valley School & Vanguard School will be partner schools, under the leadership of an Executive Principal and Executive Business & Finance Manager.  Both schools will work collaboratively to maximise the standards, curriculum offer, training and employment opportunities. This new role will enable you to influence & contribute to the future of the NAS Academies Trust schools.

Vanguard School opens January 2020. We are looking for a hardworking and committed team of specialist teachers and support staff and a commitment to ensuring the best possible outcomes for our students.

If you are ready to inspire our students and have a love of SEN we would be interested in hearing from you with the possibility of you joining us in the exciting next phase of our expanding and developing School.

Being a SEN Teacher takes bravery, patience and commitment. But working with autistic people gives so much more in return.

We need you to be resilient, supportive and sensitive towards the needs of autistic people.

You will be responsible for high quality autism specific education and development for children with Autism. You will have the ability to plan and deliver a personalised curriculum that is relevant and motivating for children on the autism spectrum. You should be able to have potential to develop skills in order to work with pupils with complex needs in addition to autism spectrum disorder, such as ADHD, OCD and PDA.

Along with a host of benefits – from shopping discounts to flexible working and a competitive pension scheme - we’ll make sure you get excellent autism-specific training to help further your career.

You may have a personal connection, a desire to work with or real life experiences working with autistic people. If you share our values and are willing to make a difference to the lives of autistic people, we’d love to hear from you.

Interviews will be held: w/c 29th April 2019
