OBJECTIVES
Wellington College Hangzhou is seeking a SEN coordinator to ensure appropriate identification and provision of pupils special educational needs and lead a team of SEN teachers as well as ensure all staff working within the school are working as well as they can with all pupils with needs. The SENCo will work with the Head of Pastoral to ensure high quality education and improved standards of learning, achievement and efficiency for all SEN pupils, based on the Wellington College philosophy and ethos. He/She must demonstrate an understanding of the wider curriculum and administration needs of education and support each individual pupil’s growth and development, encouraging them as Wellingtonians/Huilians to be inspired, intellectual, independent, individual and inclusive.
MAIN PURPOSE
The SENCO is responsible to the Head of Pastoral for the coordination, liaison and management of the student support provision across the school. This specifically relates to ensuring appropriate provision for students identified as needing SEN and Gifted and Talented support, external support services and safeguarding. The SENCO is responsible for SEN Teachers and 1:1 Shadow teachers and for working with all teaching staff to ensure they are as effective as they can be.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
BASIC Education
Bachelor’s degree; SENCO qualification (or currently working towards it)
Major Education related
Language: English speaker
EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 2 years working experience in education industry
EXPERTISE
Clear understanding of SEN strategies and how to share them with SEN team.
PREFERRED
APTITUDES
Able to work positively and pro-actively with all staff – to train and develop teachers in SEN techniques.
Be able to assess pupils’ interests, needs and developments
Open, proactive, patient and caring
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
International and bilingual school-working experience is preferred
Cross-cultural working experience is preferred – ability to work with local and western staff equally.
