Job overview

At Leeds we’re committed to creating opportunities which enable our young people to reach their potential and as such, we’re looking for an enthusiastic and talented Teaching Assistant to complement and reinforce our SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) provision across the academy.

Working in partnership with, and under the direction of our class teachers, you’ll provide support for students and guide our young people to overcome their barriers to learning and improve their barriers to learning.

Support may be provided on a whole-class, specific cohort, or one-to-one basis both in and outside of the learning space, sometimes encountering challenging behaviour and a wide range of abilities and needs.  These could be specific learning needs, engagement issues and/or challenges with social, emotional and mental health and will truly mean that no two days are the same.  It’s therefore imperative that you possess a high-level of emotional maturity and resilience and can adapt to changing priorities.

And of course, you’ll do all this whilst capturing the spirit of our vision and values and whilst role-modelling exceptional professional behaviours.

As a colleague at Leeds you’ll work within a diverse learning community, striving to deliver an outstanding working and learning experience for all.  Therefore, a genuine passion for working and making a real difference in the community is essential.

So, if you thrive on making a real difference to the lives of children and young people, seeing them develop and achieve their potential, then we’d be delighted to hear from you.

Benefits

Financial

We offer competitive salaries and pension schemes as well as travel season ticket loans, 24-hour access to free money support, and for colleagues who want to save or need help managing debt we have savings and loan products which can be deducted from your pay.

Health

We want you to stay happy and healthy. So as a teaching colleague you’ll get the school holiday period off work.  And even better, we offer a free flu vaccine, cycle to work scheme; 24-hour access to free health and wellbeing support and discounted gym membership at a number of popular gyms.

Discounts

We offer a 10% discount on Co-op branded Food, 5% discount on Co-op Electrical plus discounts on insurance products. You’ll also get access to Co-operative Flexible Benefits and MyActiveDiscounts, giving you discounts and offers from well-known brands on things like shopping, travel, eating out, theatre tickets and broadband.

Co-op Academy Leeds is a ‘Good’ school (Ofsted, Nov 2022) and on the back of our recent successes we’re fully committed to getting even better.

Here at Co-op Academy Leeds, we aim to ensure everyone has the opportunity to flourish, both academically and socially.  We expect students and staff to have the courage to aim high, the commitment to persevere – even when the going gets tough – and the mindset which will allow them to grow.

Teaching and learning sit right at the heart of everything we do – nothing else matters if the learning culture is not good enough.  We focus relentlessly on ensuring staff receive regular, relevant and useful professional development, much of which is provided and delivered by our in-house Teaching & Learning Team.  Anyone who joins us is expected to contribute to this sharing culture.

We have high expectations – and unstinting moral values.  As an integral part of Co-op Academies Trust, we espouse the core Co-op values (Self-help, Self-responsibility, Solidarity, Democracy, Equity and Equality) and have adopted the 4 Ways of Being Co-op: Be yourself, always; Do what matters most; Show you care; Succeed together.

We also enjoy the significant support of the Trust and the Sponsor, which brings with it a range of opportunities and benefits, alongside a less “formal” package of colleagues working together to look after their well-being and forge stronger relationships.

We really are all about providing the best we can for everyone – making sure our students leave here and move on to better things, whatever their starting points and backgrounds.
