Job overview

Tes are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational SENDCo on a full-time permanent basis from September 2021.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a 'Good' co-educational, non-selective secondary school for pupils aged 11-18. Located in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, it is part of an established Trust, a non-profit education charity with a chain of secondary and primary academies across the Midlands and East Norfolk.

As one of the most improved schools in the UK last year, the school attribute their success to their emphasis on coaching and professional development. Staff have considerable access to a broad range of opportunities to further develop their practice. They are on-going participants in a number of programmes including ‘Teaching Leaders’, Olevi’s ‘Outstanding Teacher Programme’ and ‘Future Leaders’. In addition, staff have abundant opportunities to debate their practice through the ‘Breakfast Learning Team’ and to participate in school-to-school development as part of the growing multi-academy trust that is well supported by leaders in education across the country.

It is because of these opportunities that Ofsted noted the ‘real buzz about the school: learners are enjoying their learning and teachers are enjoying the challenge of developing highly effective lessons and learning opportunities’ when they visited in July 2016. The school was judged ‘good’ in May 2017 (Ofsted).

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide pedagogical leadership to all staff to ensure that the planning, resourcing and delivery of the curriculum meets the needs of students with SEND and enables them to make expected or better progress.
  • To be the SENDCO and provide strategic oversight and direction to the Accelerated Learning Team.
  • To lead the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of provision for special educational needs within school liaising with relevant stakeholders.
  • To be responsible for completing all processes that relate to statutory and non-statutory assessments
  • To manage appropriate resources for special needs and ensure that they are used efficiently, effectively and safely.
  • Being a significant presence around the school, actively supporting staff and promoting appropriate conduct amongst students.
  • Develop, communicate and implement the vision for the school in conjunction with the pastoral and senior leadership teams.

The Successful Candidate:

  • Successful recent experience of your specialist subject at KS3 and KS4
  • Hold the National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination, or be willing to achieve this within three years of starting the post.
  • Relevant degree.
  • Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Expertise in planning the progression of subject skills within individual and across sequences of lessons.
  • Proven track record of outstanding teaching including marking and assessment.
  • Proven track record of delivering strong progress outcomes for students with SEND.
  • Proven track record of delivering strong progress outcomes.
  • Proven track record of strong, effective behaviour management strategies.
  • Knowledge of specific teaching strategies to help students with SEND make strong progress.
