Job overview
SENDCO required (TMS / UPS + TLR 1b + SEND 1)
Heathcote School is an 11 – 18 School that has a new Headteacher and a new vision. The school is on a rapid journey of improvement ensuring the ‘good’ status (Ofsted 2014) is retained and for the school to ultimately become ‘outstanding’ in all areas.
The School Improvement Plan (2017 – 2020) focuses on four key areas:
- Building at all levels an ambitious culture of high challenge and low threat enabling Heathcote to be the school of choice for staff and parents.
- Ensuring the best possible learning and leadership of learning, across the school.
- Ensuring safety is at the heart of everything we do and standards of behaviour and attendance are exemplary within the school and community.
- Giving all pupils equal opportunities to make maximum progress.
We are looking to recruit a qualified and talented SENDCO from April 2018 to manage, monitor, evaluate and review the day to day operation of the school’s SEND department to ensure progress and achievement gaps are closed for all pupils with SEND and that pupils reach their potential, and are safe, comfortable and have bright futures. The school has a successful HI provision with capacity for up to 13 learners.
The successful candidate will be a qualified teacher who understands the demands of pupils with a wide range of special needs and disabilities. You will have proven management skills and experience of working with SEND students. You will have a track record of ensuring quality first teaching across the school enabling pupils to overcome their barriers to learning and put in place the right interventions to ensure gaps are narrowed.
You will be working with and supported by an experienced team of teachers and leaders, Teaching Assistants and HI Communicators. It is essential that you hold, be working towards, or be willing to undertake and obtain, the National Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordination (NASENCO).
The school puts well-being and development at the heart of its work and we have very talented staff who are encouraged to grow, develop and work collaboratively. We are therefore eager to support the teachers of tomorrow in their aim to join this excellent profession.
