Job overview

Following our successful Free School bid, the Dixons Academies Trust is seeking to appoint an inspirational and experienced individual to develop our new shared Dixons Sixth Form. This is an exciting and unique opportunity  for an exceptionally talented and ambitious leader to work closely with an  Executive Principal to start up and significantly contribute to the leadership  of a sixth form centre that will compete with the country’s top performing  providers.

Working for the Dixons Trust, you will fully align to our  vision and values and have a strong commitment to doing whatever it takes to  secure the best possible outcomes for our students. You will be firmly committed to providing an  education that will give the young people of Bradford every opportunity to  confidently apply and secure places at top universities.

Our family of schools is comprised of primary and secondary, and  includes both new start-ups and sponsored academies.  Our diversity is a real strength of our model;  strong collaboration is balanced with the individual freedom to innovate.  We have a solid platform upon which we  continue to build; our Trust will continue to expand from 4,900 students now  to over 8,000 by 2018.

Opening in September 2019, this Free School start-up will  initially offer over 300 places to Dixons Academies students and (when full)  will have a roll of 880 with the potential for further development and  expansion on the site. Many places will  be taken up by students from Dixons City, Kings, McMillan and Trinity. However, there will be places offered to other  students from across the city who secure the correct entrance requirements and  are fully signed up to our ethos of high expectations and relentless  ambition.

The successful candidate will be an experienced senior leader,  or exceptional middle leader, and have a secure knowledge of all aspects of  working within this sector. They will  be able to demonstrate and evidence an uncompromising commitment to providing  an outstanding education and have the ability to motivate and inspire staff  and students.

An information evening will be held at 5.30pm on Tuesday 17  April at Dixons McMillan Academy. Prospective applicants will have the opportunity to meet the CEO, Executive  Principal and other Dixons Principals.

Please apply using the Dixons Academies application form and include  a formal letter which addresses the person specification with particular  emphasis on measurable impact. We are  looking for an August start so that the successful candidate can be involved  in all aspects of planning in readiness for opening in September 2019. When appointed, the successful candidate  will also sit on and contribute to the leadership team of one our existing  academies.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the  welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to  share this commitment. Successful  applicants will need to undertake a DBS enhanced clearance.

A note from the Principal

As the Principal of Dixons McMillan Academy, my vision is that our school is a place where everyone feels welcome, and everyone succeeds. All of our students should receive opportunities that equip them to contribute positively to their community and the wider world, and our mission is to provide a stellar educational experience that promotes cultural capital and enrichment experiences – but at the same time, is underpinned with academic rigour and excellence. To achieve our goals, we uphold our three core values of resilience, integrity and courtesy and use our drivers of mastery, autonomy and purpose to propel us forwards.

At Dixons McMillan, staff and students live by our three core values every day. By resilience we mean that we work really, really hard and we never give up. We have a can-do attitude, and when we find things difficult we work together (as a team) to find a solution. When we refer to integrity, we mean that we are good people. We do the right thing, because it’s the right thing to do. We make decisions for the good of everyone. We are honest and have strong moral principles. And finally, when we talk about courtesy, we pride ourselves in welcoming anyone warmly to our school community – be it a visitor, a new student, or a staff member. We always have good manners and we are kind, thoughtful and polite.

Through demonstrating these three core values consistently, we ensure that students can learn and staff can teach – and ultimately, our focus on success is relentless.
