Geography Teacher (Temporary LSL Replacement) 

Queenwood is an internationally-minded girls’ school that offers a contemporary liberal education from Kindergarten to Year 12. Role Description 

The Teacher is responsible for creating an engaging, productive and disciplined learning environment in which every student is equipped and encouraged to learn. The Teacher will continually reflect on and adjust his/her teaching practice and actively engage in professional learning. All teachers at Queenwood are expected to contribute to the pastoral care programs and the wider life of the School, and the majority of teachers are required to act as Tutors within the School’s pastoral care systems for which an additional allowance is payable. 

This is a full time, temporary appointment for Term 3, 2018.   

Reporting Relationships 

The post-holder will report ultimately to the Principal and directly to the Head of Social Science. Skills and Experience The successful applicant will be required to teach HSC and/or IB Geography courses and junior Geography 7 - 10. They should be knowledgeable and experienced in programming for and teaching the NESA syllabuses for the Higher School Certificate and Stage 4 and 5 Geography.  Experience teaching International Baccalaureate Diploma Program would be an advantage.

Queenwood School for Girls plays home to a 25-metre pool specifically built for water polo, an all-weather court, five state-of-the-art science laboratories and a tiered lecture theatre. Queenwood’s Art and Design campus adjoins Balmoral Beach. Students also have access to specialist precincts for drama and music, a rehearsal and recording studio, modern library and technology centres and the 600-seat Astra Theatre.

Curriculum

During their primary years, teachers focus on bringing together students' creativity and commitment in a safe, supportive learning environment for young minds. Queenwood's primary curriculum is structured so that girls gain a deep understanding of diverse subjects, beyond the core English and Mathematics. Specialist teachers ensure girls pick up skills in Art, Music, Computing, Drama, French, and research and critical thinking at an early age.

In their high school years, Queenwood School for Girls students are pushed to develop not only academic potential but also creative, sporting and interpersonal skills. Thus, the curriculum is tailored to be flexible. In Years 11 and 12 Queenwood offers both the Higher School Certificate (HSC) and the International Baccalaureate (IB), an internationally recognised alternative pathway to matriculation.
