There are two posts available. One is a full time post and the other is 0.5fte over 3 days, additional hours may become available following enrolment. Please express on your application form which post/s you are interested in. Both posts are fixed term for the academic year 20178/19.

We are passionate about young people and committed to delivering a broad range of teaching and learning activities that will allow students to broaden their knowledge and develop new skills. Becoming a member of the Social Sciences team means you have the opportunity to add value to the department. You will inspire, motivate, enthuse and shape the positive mindset of young people and create a greater sense of self-belief that will help them in their success and in their life journey.

BTEC Health and Social Care, A Level Psychology and Sociology have encountered significant growth in terms of student numbers and are popular subject choices for young people on the Fylde Coast. All three subjects have achieved outstanding outcomes for our students and have worked hard to develop excellent links with a vast range of universities and local employers to support students future progression.

With a recently completed £27 million development and state-of-the-art facilities, we were the first sixth form college to be awarded Teaching School status. Here in our forward-thinking Social Sciences department, we believe that by striving to achieve more, staff and students alike can be the best they can be.

We are proud that we have been rated Outstanding by Ofsted. That’s largely down to the dedication of our high-performing teaching team. Focused on the particular needs of 16 to 19 year old students through a range of courses (mainly A Levels and BTECs), their aim is to educate the whole person within a close and caring community.

With a relevant degree and teaching qualification, you should bring first-rate communication and organisational skills. You must also be committed to ensuring that every student looks forward to their lessons – and gets the very most out of their time with us.

You should demonstrate energy, imagination, resilience and a sense of humour. Knowledge of the BTEC Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care is essential, also knowledge of the new (linearised) A Level Psychology and/or Sociology would be beneficial. Additionally, the ability to work with external agencies and partnership models is desirable.

We’ll make sure you enjoy all the training, development and support you need to achieve your ambitions as part of our friendly and cooperative team. You will have the opportunity to share good practice and play your part in shaping the future of the curriculum. In other words, this is your chance to help us reach our goal: to ensure excellent teaching and learning, as we become the outstanding provider of education across the Fylde Coast.

We are in an exceptional location on the Lancashire border, not far from the Ribble Valley, Lake District and stunning Fylde coast. The vibrant cities of Manchester and Liverpool are both within easy reach.

We are a high-achieving sixth form, giving our students an excellent springboard to success. We educate the whole student, providing all with excellent teaching and opportunities for growth and personal development. We are recognised by Ofsted as an outstanding sixth form. We are relatively small in size, with just over 2000 students and approximately 200 staff. This means that we are a close and caring community.

We serve the whole Fylde Coast area, which includes Poulton-le-Fylde and Lytham St Annes, as well as Blackpool and the surrounding towns and villages. Blackpool Sixth is a friendly, positive and supportive place to work and is rated Grade One: Outstanding by Ofsted (2009). In 2009, we became one of the first organisations in the country to be awarded the Investors in People Gold Award. Staff are committed to the needs and aspirations of our students and supported by an extensive programme of staff development.

Staff are highly committed to the needs and aspirations of our students. The continued growth in student numbers and planned curriculum developments has enabled the sixth form to invest in new staff and new buildings. The college is designated as a Teaching School in partnership with Hodgson Academy and it's a really exciting time to be part of Blackpool Sixth.

All new staff are offered a thorough induction program; this is supplemented for Newly Qualified Teachers with a comprehensive series of training sessions throughout the academic year. All new staff are allocated a mentor in their probationary year, they are here to offer support and guidance in your new role. It's not just teachers that we develop, both teaching and support staff are involved in an annual programme of staff development, supported by individual performance management reviews and training and development plans.

On top of the internal opportunities staff now also benefit from a wider programme of Continuing Professional Development events which come from being part of the Teaching School Alliance, these include nationally accredited programmes.
