Lochinver House School is a highly regarded day preparatory school situated in Little Heath on the outskirts of Potters Bar in Hertfordshire. The School’s mission is to inspire pupils through the highest level of quality teaching and learning, in partnership with their parents. There is a particular emphasis on spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development, whilst also creating a safe, happy community that is conducive to learning in its broadest sense.

The School, founded in 1947, has recently had its maximum roll extended to 370 pupils and in September 2024 welcomed boys into our Nursery offering "Little Lochies".  In September 2025 we will be welcoming girls into Little Lochies, Reception and Years 1 and 2 before gradually rolling up through the School.

Lochinver prepares pupils for entry to many world class schools at both 11+ and 13+ and is noted for high attainment academically and its delivery of a strong programme of co-curricular pursuits. These accomplishments have been supported by excellent governance, strong leadership, sound financial management, ample resourcing, a highly regarded staff team and a positive home/school partnership.

Two thirds of our pupils learn a musical instrument and 50% of those learn two, with termly progression through ABRSM grade exams, sat at our school. Regular concerts showcase pupil orchestras and ensembles and our theatre hosts dramatic presentations throughout the year.

The School fields a tremendous number of sports teams and we compete at the highest level, with some of our pupils contracted to professional clubs. Lochinver sport is highly respected. We are currently national U13 Basketball Champions, Rugby 7s and Cricket County Champions and bronze medal winners in the U11 Cricket Independent Schools National Finals. We are regular participants in the National IAPS Athletics finals.

The School is well equipped with modern purpose-built classrooms, a theatre, a sports hall, a computing suite, art studio, DT studio, music rooms, two science laboratories, dedicated space for Learning Support and extensive playing fields (grass and all-weather) within its 9 acre site.

Our staff are kind, thoughtful, considerate, inclusive and are celebrated as individuals. Whilst our staff may be in different buildings, departments or on different timetables, we all work collaboratively, supporting the School’s ethos and pride ourselves in the warm community we have at Lochinver House.
