Special Educational Needs Coordinator - SENCo

Outwood Academy CitySheffield

This post is full time with an approximate teaching load of 12 hours per week.

Serving the bustling city of Sheffield, Outwood Academy City was constructed in 2011 with state-of-the-art facilities and joined Outwood Grange Academies Trust three years later. The school has undergone a huge transformation for its 1000 students, with an innovative curriculum and a personalised approach to learning enabling them to realise their vocational, practical, creative and academic abilities. This was recognised by Ofsted in February 2019, when the academy was judged ‘Good with Outstanding Leadership’. Inspectors noted that, “Leaders and teachers demonstrate high expectations for all pupils. They are determined that pupils achieve well in their subjects”.

This post is a vital appointment in terms of enhancing and ensuring the positive life chances for our students through success and achievement. As such we are keen to recruit a dedicated and ambitious professional who will add value to the academy in both academic terms and through involvement in the fabric of learning and success beyond the classroom. A passion for supporting our most vulnerable students and those with barriers to learning is essential.

This outstanding individual will provide expert advice, modelled through outstanding teaching to develop the practice of all staff and will work closely with our dedicated inclusion team to support our students.

The successful candidate will be provided with the training, support and CPD needed to enable them to meet the requirements of the role and thrive within the Outwood Grange Family of Schools. They will be a suitably qualified SENCO or someone with a willingness to achieve National SENCO Award and will be expected to deliver approximately 12 hours of teaching per week.

As part of a growing multi-academy trust, the successful candidate will be well supported and have access to a range of high-quality professional development through the Outwood Institute of Education.

To arrange an informal discussion about the role, please contact Julia Pinder, current post holder and Vice Principal, by email: j.pinder@city.outwood.com
