Special Educational Needs - Disabilities Coach

37 hours per week (Term Time + 5 Training Days)

Initial fixed term contract until 31 August 2018

Required for January 2018

If you are looking to join a friendly and supportive group of people committed to the success of the youngsters they work with, then this is the school for you!

We are currently looking to appoint a full time special educational needs/disabilities (SEND) coach to join our successful and supportive team. This provision is a key part of our school and is focused on maximising the progress and achievement of each student in our care.

The appointed candidate will be responsible for supporting identified SEND students with specific disabilities or learning needs, both in class and in withdrawal groups to help progress their achievement.

Although the role is initially until 31 August 2018, we would be looking to extend the contracts for a following year.

Holly Lodge School is a mixed 11-19 Specialist Science College. Currently it has 1500 students on roll, and is now oversubscribed due to the rapid improvement that the school has successfully made. The school has extensively transformed through ‘building schools for the future’ programme with a new £23.5 million school that completed in September 2011 offering state of the art teaching and learning facilities.

Holly Lodge School is a thriving and exciting school, which has made significant progress in recent years. In 2016 the schools key stage 4 results showed progress 8 measures significantly above national. Post 16 results have demonstrated a year on year improvement in both academic and vocational outcomes.

The school was described by OFSTED as a ‘Good’ school, fully committed to creating a culture of continuous school improvement, in the last inspection in February 2017.

Vision and Values

The vision for Holly Lodge is encapsulated in three words: Ambition, Opportunity and Community. We believe that every child, regardless of their background or starting point, is entitled to a world-class education in the best that has been thought, said and made, and that they should be equipped for joining the great conversations of humankind, shaping the future and living truly rewarding and meaningful lives. We believe in the power of expertly developed, subject specialist curriculum, alongside research-informed teaching approaches, high expectations for behaviour, and excellent pastoral care in achieving this vision. We are ambitious for the experience of our staff as well as our students: in terms of well-being, professional development and career progression. At Holly Lodge there is no written marking of books, no written reports and no graded lesson observations: we believe in stripping away performative documents and activities that have little impact, in order to make time for the things that really make a difference. We believe that the key to staff wellbeing is sensible workload and a positive professional culture, and we place these at the heart of everything we do.

If you share our values and want to be part of a team which champions ambition, opportunity and community, then please see our applications pack for more information. We look forward to hearing from you.

Ofsted

“Underpinning the strong progress made in many subjects, and especially in English, is the rapid development of students’ literacy and language skills. Students make particularly impressive gains in their reading skills and in their general interest in and enjoyment of literature. ‘We all read every night’, said one Year 9 boy browsing through the very well-stocked shelves of the school’s large library, before explaining to the inspector why he loved the books of Roald Dahl.”
