Due to the well-deserved retirement of our current SENDCo, Robertswood School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational SENDCo. The full-time role also includes a teaching commitment for 1 day per week from September 2021.

There will be a broad range of opportunities for you to realise your professional vision and ambitions within the school. As an integral member of the team, key duties will include identifying and supporting students who are experiencing barriers to learning. 

Qualities of the candidate: 

• A strong commitment to achieving the best for pupils with SEN and their family. Empathy to recognise/be sensitive to the needs of SEN pupils and parents

• Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with parents, colleagues and external professionals

• Influencing and negotiating skills – to secure the correct support for SEN pupils

• Leadership skills – to direct SEN policy and develop a school wide commitment to excellence for SEN pupils

• Written communication skills – many complex reports to write

• Time management/organisation – working to statutory deadlines


The successful candidate:

• Qualified teacher status

• National Award for SEND Co-ordination (NASENCO Award)/other appropriate qualification – or complete within 3 years of appointment (preferable)

• A proven track record of effective working with pupils within the age range of the school

• Evidence of consistent good teaching ability/experience

• Other qualifications related to SEND (desirable)

• Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively

• Data analysis skills, and the use of data to inform provision planning

• Ability to plan and evaluate interventions

• Experience of conducting training/leading INSET
