The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an SpLD Teacher with a Level 7 Diploma in Teaching and Assessing Learners with Dyslexia-Specific Learning Difficulties to work with an enthusiastic and dynamic team of specialist teachers.

You will join the SpLD Team which is part of Lewisham STEPS (Specialist Teachers and Educational Psychology Service). You will work mainly in primary schools and in some secondary schools. You will support schools in identifying and meeting the needs of pupils with specific learning difficulties. This will mainly involve writing diagnostic reports for dyslexia and some training to support schools’ CPD. You will need to be able to support schools in developing dyslexia-friendly approaches.

Location

The SpLD Team is based in the Kaleidoscope Centre, Catford.

This is a multi-disciplinary centre providing a comprehensive, integrated specialist service for children and young people in Lewisham with educational, health and social needs.

What we’re looking for

Qualified Teacher Status and a Level 7 Diploma in Teaching and Assessing Learners with Dyslexia/Specific Learning Difficulties will be essential.

You will be a highly motivated and enthusiastic person with good interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Be committed to the development of the service and in working collaboratively with schools, parents and other professionals.

Excellent communication skills and a clear understanding of the needs of dyslexic learners is essential, as well as having knowledge of the tests and assessments which can be used for the identification of dyslexia. You will need excellent writing skills as this position mainly involves carrying out assessment work and diagnostic report writing with recommendations for support and intervention. You will need excellent time management skills to book appointments and manage your case load.
