Our small and friendly team at our Plymouth Campus are seeking an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant / Specialist TA to join the team on a full time, permanent basis. This 1:1 Teaching Assistant role is to support a child with profound physical difficulties and cognitive delay within school. Work may be carried out in the classroom, outside the main teaching area or in the child’s home. The role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.

You will:

  • Work alongside a Healthcare Assistant at all times and will provide support:

- To assist in promoting the learning and personal development of the pupil to whom you are assigned, to enable him/her to make best use of the educational opportunities available to them.

- To assist in all activities of daily living including eating, drinking, personal care including intimate care 

- Ongoing medical needs such as Tracheostomy and ventilator care 

-Access to personalised curriculum 

- Access to differentiated practical lessons e.g. PE, Art, Music 

- Access to alternative forms of recording as discussed with the Advisory Teacher for ICT/SEND 

  • Be adaptable, resilient and have a desire to make a lasting difference to the lives of our students 
  • Have full working knowledge of relevant current policies, codes of practice and legislation 
  • Experience of working with children with complex learning needs
  • You will meet the Higher Level Teaching Assistant standards or equivalent qualification or experience (NVQ Level 4/5) and be educated to at least Grade A*-C in GCSE English & Maths  
  • Working knowledge and experience of implementing national curriculum and other relevant learning programmes and strategies 
  • Be sensitive to the needs of children
  • Be trustworthy and discreet maintaining confidentiality 
  • Be a positive role model of professional practice and conduct of others 
  • Respect and promote the schools Ethos and Values

Key Responsibilities:

  • To assist in promoting the learning and personal development of the pupil to whom you are assigned
  • To work towards pupils individualised targets as set out within the EHCP, in liaison with the class teacher and LSCO
  • To complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for learning activities under an agreed system of supervision. This will involve joint-planning with teachers, preparing and delivering learning activities for individuals/ groups, or short term for whole classes across all year groups in the school (Year 3-13) 
  • Deliver specific time limited interventions in small groups or 1:1 
  • Monitor pupils progress and assessing, recording and reporting on pupil’s achievement, progress and development will be integral to this role
  • To provide learning support within the context of our Self-Directed Learning Philosophy 
  • To fully engage in active participation in all staff meetings and CPD 
  • Build positive working relationships and links with parents 
  • Develop links with outside agencies who are working with the pupils 
  • Assess, manage and deliver learning support using knowledge and specialist skills 
  • To work with the LSCO/RSENCO and other teachers to develop and implement Pupil passports / ILPs/MSP 
  • To act as Key Worker for this pupil, regularly liaising with parents and staff
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom 
  • To build and maintain successful relationships with pupils, treat them consistently and be concerned for their development as learners, supporting them and responding to their individual needs 
  • To perform such other duties as may be requested from time to time, commensurate with the role 
  • Uphold and promulgate the OSG UK ethos within all areas of responsibility
