We are delighted to be advertising for the position of Specialist Teaching Assistant – with a focus on SEMH (social, emotional and mental health), at our secondary academy in North Yorkshire.

Outwood Academy Easingwold, seeks applications from outstanding applicants with integrity, imagination and energy for this rewarding role. The Academy places students at the centre of everything it does. The focus is on creating a culture of success, with positive environments for learning to increase student attainment, achievement and social and emotional development.

The successful candidate will work as part of an inclusion team primarily to support the SEMH needs of our students that have complex needs. The cohort of students have SEMH needs through diagnosed neurodiverse conditions or other factors. A key focus will be to increase student’s ability to access all areas of the curriculum. Examples of the work the successful candidate will be expected to deliver are to:

  • Take responsibility for a caseload of students inside and outside of the classroom during structured or unstructured times
  • Assess the needs of students and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support students’ educational progress and attainment
  • Deliver intervention programs to individuals and small groups, preparing relevant and appropriate learning experiences in conjunction with the needs of the students
  • Track and monitor student life skill targets and/or EHCP outcomes, discussing progress with parents and agreeing new targets/EHCP outcomes at Interim Reviews
  • Lead on the organisation, delivery and progress of SEMH programme and interventions to meet the needs of these students.

Driving may be required within this role for home visits.

Playing an active role in our local community is important to us and we regularly work with community members of a range of projects. Our sports hall and 3G sports pitch is also available for hire, giving the local community access to state of the art sporting facilities.

We have won numerous awards as a school and we have been accredited with the prestigious IQM Award, which highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us. We are also proud to have been awarded Silver Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

Our success led to us appearing in the Sunday Times School Guide 2020, where we ranked as the 14th best school in the North and the 235th best school overall in the country.
