Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist to work as part of our Therapy team in a small independent primary special school in Earlsfield, South London. This post would suit an individual who has an interest in working with children who have complex needs, specifically those diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and mild to severe Learning Disabilities. Interest and/or experience in developing social-emotional skills in children is desirable.

A valid HCPC is required.

Main responsibilities

  • To complete comprehensive assessments for each pupil on your caseload in order to determine their individual speech, language and communication needs
  • To plan, deliver and evaluate 1:1 and group evidence based therapy programmes to develop skills in receptive/expressive spoken language, attention and listening, social communication, AAC and other areas where appropriate
  • To manage (with support) a caseload of children with a range of speech, language and communication needs relating to ASD, global developmental delay, and other conditions.
  • To develop effective working relationships and strong communication skills with school staff in order to liaise and problem solve as well as to train staff in relevant therapeutic strategies tailored to the needs of the children.

The Ofsted Outstanding school has a strong emphasis on working as a team in order to understand and reduce therapeutic barriers to each child's learning. The provision is highly individualised and therapeutically informed, where therapists work in a flexible manner to support children across their day (e.g. in class, in play, during snack and lunch times, 1:1 sessions). All therapists are based on site at the school and work in close partnership with other Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Emotional Team members, educational staff and families/carers to help the pupils reach their full potential.

We are an equal opportunities employer and are committed to safeguarding and promoting children's welfare. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and is subject to enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks.
