We offer many degrees, HNCs and HNDs at our focused and inclusive University Studies Centre. We have around 13,000 students including nearly 2,000 apprentices studying with us.

We are seeking an individual who is passionate about supporting young people and promoting them to lead a positive lifestyle, to join our team of Liaison Officers, to engage productively with our students, promote positive behaviour and resolve conflict should it arise.

The role will include:

• Mixing with students at the bus stop, during break times.

• Opportunity to lead on / run clubs such as debating societies and games clubs and talk on issues of interest.

• Maintain a positive, visible presence around the College.

• Responding to student confrontations around the campus, using a range of skills to de-escalate confrontational behaviour.

• Promoting positive lifestyle choices and proving information about substance abuse, sexual health and exercise and well-being.

• Safeguarding students and staff by checking membership cards and ensuring only people who have the right to be at the College are on site.

• Building positive relationships with the local community and liaising with key external agencies.

• Establishing a good working relationship with the local PCSO, inviting them into the College on a regular basis.

• Visiting student homes on occasions to undertake welfare checks, taking account of Lone Working procedures and social distancing.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication, de-escalation, and negotiation skills, and have experience of working with young people in a variety of settings.  You will also have knowledge of current safeguarding themes within education relating to young people.  A current first aid qualification, as well as experience of working with the Police or Armed Forces would be an advantage.

As a College, our Character Strengths and Mission Statement underpin our expectations of all our students and employees.  Please familiarise yourself with these and incorporate them into your personal statement; this will be of benefit if you are invited to attend for an interview.

This is an opportunity to join a hugely supportive organisation where we value, support and facilitate your professional development, as well as offering many other benefits including an attractive pension scheme, staff wellbeing initiatives and employee assistance.
