Job overview

Due to increasing student numbers, we are seeking to appoint an additional Student Welfare Officer to work within our dedicated and talented team of pastoral staff.  The pastoral team consists of five Heads of Year, an attendance officer, and the Student Welfare Officers, and it is managed, along with ‘The Hub’ which supports students with mental health issues, by the Deputy Headteacher, Mr Kennedy.  The role involves supporting the pastoral team with the management of student behaviour, responding to any incidents that occur, and providing support to students who have particular welfare or emotional or issues. This will include working with parents/carers and a range of external agencies such as the police, social workers, medical professionals, and the county educational inclusion team. There may also be the opportunity to train as a safeguarding officer.

The successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, including parents/carers, teachers, and other professionals, and – of course – teenagers.  They will be patient, understanding, and compassionate but also resilient and emotionally strong and able to be impose clear behaviour boundaries for students when necessary.

Prince William School is located in Oundle, within easy commuting distance of Peterborough, Stamford, Huntingdon, Wellingborough, and Corby, which has recently been judged to be ‘Good’ by Ofsted. It is a vibrant and friendly school with enthusiastic, well-behaved students who are eager to achieve the best they can.  We have high expectations for all, and our aim is simple: to be the best school in Northamptonshire and beyond for every student, no matter what their ability or aspirations.

Welcome to Prince William School. We are passionate about learning and providing a wide range of experiences for our young people to prepare them for the world beyond school. Our vision is to create an innovative learning environment which has all staff and students learning, developing and delivers the highest of expectations from ourselves and from each other.

At Prince William School we focus upon success. Success for learning. Success in competition. Success in our personal aims. This focus means that we achieve success in many areas including: school results, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, nationally recognised musicians, winning district, county and national sporting events and through being frequent competitors in activities such as the Economics literary papers judged at Eton, and the East Northants “Dragons Den” Competition. We also learn that although we aim to succeed, there are times when we might not. The key is to dust ourselves off and tackle the next challenge with the aim of succeeding next time.

We encourage our young people to ‘Learning for Life’ through the setting of aspirational targets, recognising success in its many guises, through celebrations and in developing and promoting student leadership to encourage future students to do even better.

Our excellent year teams link the need to support young people through any difficulties and challenges in order to overcome barriers to learning and ensure the core purpose of learning and achievement is not forgotten.
