“Technology is a gift of God. After the gift of life it is perhaps the greatest of God's gifts. It is the mother of civilizations, of arts and of sciences.” Freeman Dyson
As our school has grown year on year we are now looking for an experienced Technology teacher to lead the growth of the Technology department and develop the KS3 provision into KS4 and KS5. This is an exciting time for a Subject Leader of Technology to join the supportive and talented staff at Our Lady’s Catholic College. We are looking to recruit a talented and energetic teacher who can enthuse pupils and colleagues to raise standards of performance, extend the range of existing provision and enhance participation levels.
Design and Technology at Our Lady’s is an inspiring and practical subject that encourages children to learn to think and intervene creatively to solve problems, both as individuals and as members of a team. At Our Lady’s, we encourage children to use their creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. We also aim to make links to designs and designers throughout history, providing opportunities for children to critically reflect upon and evaluate their designs. We aim to, wherever possible, link work to other disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. This gives the learning purpose and relevance to the children.
Through a variety of creative and practical activities, we teach the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in an interactive process of designing and making. When designing and making, the school uses a standardised planning format to ensure the pupils are familiar with the design, make and evaluate cycle. In Food Technology we provide each and every student the opportunity to develop a knowledge and understanding of a broad range of practical skills, techniques and recipes. Food Technology is a popular subject and students are provided with an opportunity to be creative and independent. Students can explore their creativity in cooking and preparing a variety of dishes. Our Lady’s pupils love to gain new knowledge and skills and all our teachers relish the opportunity to deliver challenging, engaging and interesting lessons, with high expectations of behaviour.
At Our Lady’s, staff work together in departments to create shared resources that promote enthusiasm for learning and provide students with the opportunity to progress. The team understand the importance of ensuring that lessons offer challenge and rigour and continue to develop new schemes of work to ensure students are prepared for the new examinations and coursework requirements. Technology is a successful department, which focuses on student outcomes and achieving excellent results at key stages 4 and 5.
