Job overview

About the role:  The Leigh Academy has a rare opportunity and we are now recruiting for the role of Sunday Caretaker.  Our successful candidate will be a committed and self-motivated individual who not only enjoys being part of a team but also enjoys the responsibility that comes with solo-working.  The working basis of the role is every Sunday from 8.30am until 6.00pm throughout the full year (9.5 hours per week including 30 minutes paid lunch break) - i.e. we open our school for a variety of lettings and events at weekends during the school holidays. This position will assist the broader Site Team with the care of the school premises, a range of general maintenance duties within the buildings and the grounds whilst ensuring the security of school premises.  Applicants will need a flexible approach to working hours and duties occasionally.

Our successful candidate will be trustworthy, reliable, hard-working, conscientious and be able to work independently or as part of a team. You will also need a good customer service manner as you may have to interact with external clients.  You will have a general knowledge of Health & Safety, basic IT skills, a good understanding of safeguarding, be able to undertake basic maintenance tasks, and be responsible for the security of the building whilst on duty.

The hourly rate is £8.14 for this position with an actual salary of £3,810 per annum.  There is scope for additional overtime during the week when members of the Site Team take annual leave throughout the year - any overtime is agreed well in advance.

About The Leigh Academy:  The Leigh Academy moved into its state of the art, £40m new building a number of years ago which has been upheld to a fantastic standard. It has consistently achieved high academic results in recent years and was judged as a 'Good' school by Ofsted in November 2017.  Our award-winning building and facilities are modern, light and airy and the open learning terraces and classrooms built around a daylit wintergarden give the academy a unique and special character.

Being part of Leigh Academies Trust:  As part of Leigh Academies Trust, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with your peers and share best practice at Academy level and across the whole Trust.  This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together.  You will also be expected to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation. As part of the 'cluster' structure, all of our academies are grouped together in key geographical area to enable them to be able to support each other and share resources.  It also offers staff access to career opportunities across the Trust allowing them to progress their career without switching employers.   For more information on working for the Trust please visit our careers pages

Diversity at our core:  As a Trust, we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals we all bring something unique to the role regardless of age, gender, race, beliefs or disabilities which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise.

The academy is committed to safeguarding children and successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.  Our commitment to safeguarding is underpinned by robust processes and checks which are in place across the Trust.
