Swimming Teacher

We are looking for someone to support the development of the School’s swimming programme at all ability levels by working in conjunction with the Senior Swimming Teacher to deliver inspirational swimming teaching to children at all levels in line with the scheme of work, or Long Term Athlete Development Model. You will also teach students from external schools, and support galas and inter school competitions.

Royal Russell is an HMC/IAPS co-educational school with over 1000 pupils between the ages of 3 and 18, situated on a beautiful green campus of 110 acres in the Shirley Hills near Croydon yet is on the doorstep of London. We have over 150 boarding students in the Senior School, and are proud of our day and boarding facilities that rank amongst the best in the South of England.  Our pupils, parents and staff experience a warm and friendly environment with strong pastoral care for every pupil alongside a comprehensive co-curricular and enrichment programme. We aim to build on this alongside improving academic success to continue to be the family school of choice in South London. In March 2016 the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) judged the school as ‘excellent’ in all areas and in October 2018 we successfully passed a full ISI compliance inspection.

With your passion, enthusiasm and sheer love of swimming, you will ensure that our pupils enjoy, develop and maintain a high level of swimming standard. You should be a qualified Swimming Teacher with ASA Level 2 Swimming Teacher’s Certificate, with knowledge of teaching swimming skills, techniques and awards, and ideally, the National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches. Knowledge of health and safety and other relevant legislation will be vital, as will an understanding of Safeguarding. You must be approachable, with a friendly, patient nature able to build people's trust, motivate pupils and encourage with praise.

This exciting opportunity offers excellent benefits including a competitive salary, working with a fantastic team of dedicated and friendly staff, immediate non-contributory pension, free life cover, free car parking, free meals, working in our beautiful green parkland estate with easy access to transport links, a discount on School fees, and the use of our sporting and gym facilities, all combined with the opportunity to be part of the vibrant community of the historic Royal Russell School.
