The College

Oxford International College Brighton is an international day and boarding school opening in Ovingdean, Brighton in September 2023. For the right candidate, this is an exciting and highly rewarding opportunity to lead and develop a new College, shaping its academic trajectory within Nord Anglia’s world-class international network of schools. The College’s curriculum will be based on the proven success of Oxford International College’s three-pronged curriculum model which has led to outstanding academic outcomes; OIC Brighton intends to join OIC Oxford at the top of the UK league tables, preparing our leavers for the most competitive courses at the world’s best universities. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in shaping the College’s opening phase and strategic direction, both in terms of increasing pupil numbers and developing a world-class curriculum.


The Role

OIC Brighton’s Global Strategic Pathways model aims to prepare all pupils for top university destinations whilst ensuring the highest levels of personal development. Academic staff will fulfil an important role in ensuring these outcomes, contributing to the development of their subject across the College and to the College’s Super Curriculum programme encompassing personal development, careers guidance and preparation and academic support and extension. 

The ideal candidate will have a flexible, creative approach to their subject, looking to support students’ academic aims and to develop the provision across the College. Academic staff are likely to have tutoring responsibilities and will be expected to contribute to the wider life of the College through clubs, activities and supervision duties. 


Teaching class sizes will be small and taught in purpose-built, modern facilities. OIC Brighton will attract high-achieving and ambitious students from across the world including local day students. In year 1, entry will be at Year 9, Year 10 (GCSE), Year 11 (intensive 1 year GCSE) and Year 12 (AS and A Level). The culture of the College is one of high expectations, with a Collegiate feel achieved through a relatively informal uniform and the use of teachers’ and students’ first names. There will be a requirement to work approximately 1 half day on a Saturday per half term. 


The Person

The successful candidate will:

  • Be well qualified to degree level or above in a relevant discipline;
  • Have a high level of academic expertise, with ability to prepare students in their subject for highly competitive university destinations and courses; 
  • Demonstrate passion for their subject and a genuine interest in educational research and practice;
  • Be a talented teacher and very ambitious for themselves and their students; 
  • Be willing to contribute to the development, growth and success of their academic department and the wider College; 
  • Have a sense of fun, flexibility and a readiness to respond to students’ needs with enthusiasm and openness;
  • Be willing to become part of our community of aspirational, outward looking, internationally-minded staff and students;
  • Be computer literate with excellent organisational skills; 
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 


Experience and Qualifications

  • A very good degree in the subject area
  • An excellent teaching track record with proven success in preparing students for external examinations
  • A PGCE or equivalent formal teaching qualification is desirable  
  • Experience of delivering GCSE and A-level curricula
  • Experience teaching internationally and/or working with international students is desirable
  • Experience as an examiner in their subject specialism is desirable


Role:   Part-Time


Salary: OIC Brighton has its own salary scale (comparable to, or above the national scale) and pension scheme.

Global academic results

The 2021-2022 school year was one of the strongest ever in terms of Nord Anglia Education’s academic results. For the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, our students achieved a 35.1 global point average, far exceeding the global average of 31.9. A third of the students earned a perfect score of 45. In the A-levels, our students achieved 60.5% of grades at A*-A, along with 77.3% at A*-B. The group’s latest IGCSE student cohort, consisting of 2,351 students across 41 Nord Anglia schools, achieved an outstanding set of results, with 52.8% of grades at 9 – 7 for the year and 90.8% at 9 – 4.
