Position Information 

Matraville Sports High School is a co-educational selective sports high school located in Sydney's eastern suburbs with an enrolment of 366.

The school provides a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students including 35% from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island background and 14% from a language background other than English, and a support unit for students with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder.

Matraville Sports High School is a member of the NSW Sports High Schools Association providing elite coaching and performance pathways for athletes in reaching academic and sporting goals.

In addition the school is home to the UNSW-Matraville Education partnership which aims to extend the student experience through gifted and talented enrichment opportunities, enhanced teacher professional learning, and engagement with the school community.

Specific Selection Criteria 

Approval to teach careers or currently undertaking or currently enrolled in the Careers Adviser qualifications approved by the New South Wales Department of Education (Refer special note below).

Demonstrated ability to engage community agencies and groups and parents in authentic partnerships required to support post-school pathway options for students from diverse backgrounds including but not limited to elite athletes, Aboriginal students, and students with disabilities.

Excellent working knowledge of school-based apprenticeships and traineeships, scholarship application processes, VET courses and TAFE options.

High level interpersonal and organisational skills with the ability to develop positive relationships with students, staff and the wider school community.

Experience in or willingness to particpate in sports coaching.


An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

If applicable engagement will be temporary until successful completion of the Careers Adviser qualifications as recognised by the NSW Department of Education, which must be completed within 12 months.
