Cathkin High School is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school with sixth form, situated in the town of Cambuslang, in South Lanarkshire, south-east of the City of Glasgow. It is a state school, and shares its campus with Cathkin Community Nursery, Rutherglen High School and an authority Social, Emotional and Behavioural Needs Base, which increases its students’ wide range of opportunities to learn. The latest school handbook identifies a school roll of 1,100 pupils overall between the ages of 11-18.

The school first opened in November 1970, reopening at its current location in 2008, when the old buildings closed.

Values and Vision

The school vision is defined with the acronym CLEAR – community, learning and teaching, excellence, ambition and respect. With a motto of “be all you can be”, it is a strong advocate of young people being given the strongest level of opportunities possible. It encourages learners to move through their school years with confidence and clear progress, understanding the important role that education can have on children of these ages.

Education Scotland

“Young people across the school, including those with complex needs in the Additional Support Needs (ASN) Unit, enjoy learning and are motivated to learn. They benefit from a culture of mutual respect between staff and young people. Young people demonstrate respect for their school through both behaving well and maintaining high standards of dress. Almost all young people feel that they are encouraged by staff to do the best they can.”
