Job overview

Stephenson (MK) Trust is an organisation committed to supporting young people who are at risk of exclusion from mainstream secondary provision (Bridge Academy) and specialist secondary provision for students with Social Emotional and Mental Health needs (Stephenson Academy). We provide inclusive education for young people with a range of educational and social needs in order to maximise and improve their life chances.

If you know how to put yourself in other people’s shoes, are positive, flexible, resilient and can use your initiative, you could make a difference to the lives of these young people. Your job is about building relationships and committing to helping students make progress, both academically and personally. Personal qualities such as integrity and being able to work effectively as part of a team are more important than experience in this field, which is why our staff join us from different roles and trades.

To deliver the Physical Education curriculum and related courses where applicable, to students with a statement of social, emotional and mental health needs aged 11-18. This will involve Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, GCSE & BTEC level, depending on age and ability of the students. It will also involve the broader, collaborative responsibility of promoting healthy lifestyles for students across the school.

Stephenson Academy is a successful 80 place special school, which opened in 2012. It has a main site, which caters for 11-16 year olds. We have an associated independent sixth form provision for 16-19 year olds.

As a specialist academy we cater for students who have Education and Health Care Plans with an identified primary need of Social Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties (SEMH), many with associated challenging behaviour. Many of our students have additional special educational needs such as speech, language and communication difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and mental health difficulties.
