Job overview

Join us at our brand new Learning Centre in Albrighton, Shropshire and Be the teacher you were born to be.

The positive impact you can have early on to a young person’s life is most likely the reason you got into Education in the first place. Here, that impact will be greater than you could have imagined – this is more than just education, this is life-changing education.

Part of Witherslack Group, we provide outstanding education for young people with a range of complex educational needs. Some may need emotional support to help them achieve their potential. Others may, for instance, function at an incredibly high level but have ADHD, social communication difficulties or autism, and struggle to maintain concentration. Each child’s set of needs requires a unique approach and our teachers are there to deliver that. Channelling individual capabilities into academic success is the goal, as part of a holistic and uniquely attentive educational strategy.

About us

The Gables Learning Centre in Albrighton, Shropshire will be part of an Integrated Therapeutic Provision, providing the highest standards of education, care and therapeutic support for children and young people, with complex educational needs, communication difficulties and challenging behaviours.

The learning centre will cater for up to 18 young people between the ages of 7 and 19 years. It will offer a highly personalised and structured curriculum for all pupils, allowing them to equip themselves with the skills and practical experience they need for life beyond school and into their chosen career. Our integrated Therapeutic Provisions offer a complete package of residential care and on-site learning. The strong links between the learning centre and children’s home ensure that the young people are closely supported throughout their school day and home life and to ensure the best possible outcomes are achieved.

Be inspired

We need more than a Teacher, we need someone who can connect with our pupils first and foremost and develop strong trusting relationships quickly.

Once you have developed those relationships then you will be able to begin to really impact on each and every pupil you teach. This means you can teach what you always wanted to teach to the pupils who really need you the most. Our pupils abilities and needs are diverse, so you have the chance to bring education alive and relate it to each pupil as an individual. All our classes are supported by teaching assistants with a strong pastoral presence as well. You are never alone at our school as you’ll work as part of a collaborative team, not just with other teachers across the school and the wider Witherslack Group but with our in-house psychologists, family liaison officers and therapy professionals. All pulling together to create the best possible outcomes for our pupils.

Be yourself

We’re looking for a Teacher with a vision. The kind of person who wants to make a difference and knows the pathway that will allow them to do so. Someone who also wants to be part of the conversation when it comes to group decisions on how we, as a Group, best meet the needs of each child with regard to training, support and annual reviews.

Aware of the standards that Ofsted look out for and always conscious to exceed them, you’ll be the kind of teacher who is never anything but engaged and engaging. What’s more, you’ll be excited by the prospect of our small class sizes of 8 pupils or less, (with at least one Teaching Assistant) and will seize upon this as an opportunity to tailor learning to individuals and build stronger, more insightful teacher/pupil relationships. Empathetic and passionate, you’ll understand that our pupils’ journeys aren’t necessarily linear. If you haven’t worked in SEN before, but are enthusiastic and motivated to make the move, we’ll give you all the additional training and support you require.

Be rewarded

The benefit of doing a role like this is it feels good. Every day brings a sense of hard-won achievement and progress. There are also some outstanding rewards – in fact, our salary and benefits package is one of the best in the sector. It includes:

•      A highly competitive salary

•      Full school holidays

•      Teacher pension scheme or a range of flexible pension options to suit personal circumstances (where applicable)

•      A comprehensive, market-leading induction and ongoing training

•    Extensive Group staff benefits, such as a Medicash Health Plan/Employee Assistance and Cycle to Work Scheme

•    Free lunches

•      Free DBS Enhanced checks for all new employees

We strongly believe that people should have choice and flexibility when it comes to saving for the future. As such we offer membership of the Teachers Pensions Scheme if you are eligible to join. We also offer a flexible alternative option to the Teachers Pension Scheme that allows you to opt out and receive an allowance of 15% of your base salary and free life insurance. If you take this option you are also able to join our Scottish Widows Group Pension Scheme where your employee contributions are matched up to 5%.
