Are you a qualified, talented and experienced Art Teacher able to support and inspire our enthusiastic and creative students by delivering effective teaching and learning in Art and Design? Art and Design is a very popular subject with excellent exam results at GCSE and A Level and provides our students with many opportunities to develop their skills both inside and outside of the classroom. You will join a lively and dynamic team including a dedicated Art and Photography technician, who are all working together to ensure that our students achieve greater levels of success.

If you are an innovative and inspirational teacher with passion and enthusiasm for your subject, who is committed to achieving high standards within a successful department, then we would love to hear from you.

Royal Russell School educates over 1000 girls and boys between the ages of 3 and 18 and is situated on a beautiful green campus of 110 acres in the Shirley Hills near Croydon, only 30 minutes from Central London.  We have over 180 boarding students in the Senior School and are proud of our state of the art day and boarding facilities as well as the warm pastoral provision provided by our Housemasters and Housemistresses.  Our pupils, parents and staff experience a warm and friendly environment with strong pastoral care for every pupil alongside a comprehensive co-curricular and enrichment programme. Our vision is to provide an outstanding co-educational experience for children as the family school of choice.

You should have outstanding subject knowledge and be able to teach confidently across different year groups. In addition, you should be able to deliver high quality tutorial support and a range of co-curricular activities. You should have previous experience of teaching the secondary curriculum in Art and Design, ideally including Fine Art or Photography at A level. The ideal candidate will thrive on working collaboratively and supportively with colleagues to deliver high quality lessons.

An awareness of relevant Health and Safety issues, and the ability to demonstrate effective use of art materials, are also required.

Art and Photography are crucial areas within the school, both in terms of student progression and learning, and also their wider exposure to the challenges and opportunities which such creative subjects bring. Art is taught as a discrete subject through Year 7-13, building on excellent practice in our Junior School, and Photography is available at A level.

The post could suit a recently qualified or experienced teacher with excellent practical skills and the ability to engage and inspire and challenge pupils. The successful applicant will be a passionate advocate of the subject who will be able to contribute effectively to departmental development.

A willingness to contribute to the extra-curricular programme and support the pastoral life of our school is essential.

This exciting opportunity offers excellent benefits including a competitive salary on our own salary scale which is above SNS and rewards staff in line with their qualifications and experience whilst also providing for progression based on performance and contribution. You will also have the opportunity to take on additional pastoral and academic responsibilities for which an additional allowance is paid. Teachers automatically join the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS) or you may opt into an alternative defined contribution pension scheme with free life cover on a promoted salary scale. As part of the vibrant community of the historic Royal Russell School, you will join a fantastic team of dedicated, supportive and friendly staff working in our beautiful green parkland estate with easy access to transport links (Coombe Lane tram stop served by the New Addington tram is opposite the School entrance). In addition you will have access to free car parking, free meals, a discount of up to 50% on School fees, (85% discount for wrap around care before and after School during term-time and 25% discount with the Royal Russell Holiday Club which operates during School holiday periods), and the use of our sporting and gym facilities (on-site tennis courts, swimming pool and gym), free of charge.
