Job overview

Bourne Academy is seeking to appoint an inspirational, enthusiastic and innovative Teacher of Art & Design to join its Expressive & Creative Arts Faculty to undertake a maternity cover.   The successful candidate will teach across the age range, including examination groups.

The Art Department at Bourne Academy is an established and much respected department that is well resourced and thrives in a school that fully supports the Arts and the importance of a high quality provision for all.

All students study Art and Design at KS3 and it is an extremely popular choice at KS4 and 5. At KS4 we offer a general Art & Design GCSE, Art & Design Textiles GCSE and Art & Design BTEC. Our results are well above national average with 94% of students achieving A*-C in August 2017.

At KS5 we offer Art & Design Level 3 BTEC. The subject has an excellent take up at sixth form and due to its impressive reputation, students regularly transfer to us from other local schools. In 2016 the BTEC results at Bourne Academy were in the top 4% nationally. We are regarded as a centre of excellence in this vocational area, providing leadership to other schools.

This is an exciting opportunity for an NQT or an experienced teacher to join this thriving and highly motivated department and we would be keen to receive applications from candidates in all specialisms. All our NQTs are well supported by an excellent induction programme which is in addition to the outstanding CPD programme that we provide for all staff. We believe strongly in career development and staff are encouraged and supported to fulfil their full potential.

Bourne Academy is a Good school (Ofsted 2017) which is rightly recognised for its long-standing tradition of academic excellence and for its friendly, inclusive, caring approach to the needs of young people.  We are very proud of what we do here, proud of our record of student and staff success, and proud of the young people our students become over the time they spend with us.

We have over 1300 students and work hard to ensure that we get to know all of them as individuals, so we are able to support them through this crucial time in their lives.

The school site offers an exceptionally pleasant working environment – visitors are always commenting on how calm the classrooms and corridors are – our staff and students work hard, achieve a great deal and enjoy excellent working relationships.

Bourne Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all its staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  All post holders are subject to a satisfactory disclosure prior to taking up an offer of employment.

For an application form and further information please visit our websites www.bourneacademy.org or www.spaldingacademy.org.uk.  Closing date for applications is 9am Tuesday 16th October 2018.  Interviews are scheduled to take place the week commencing 29th October 2018.
