Teacher of Art & Design

We are looking for a dynamic and passionate Teacher of Art and Design, to teach students at Key Stage 3, GCSE, and A level. The post holder will be responsible for delivering high-quality lessons and supporting students to achieve their best. The role will also involve working as a Form Tutor in our strong pastoral team.

Roles and Responsibilities

· To plan and prepare curriculum for assigned timetabled classes and groups, taking into consideration the differing educational needs of the pupils

· To develop appropriate and differentiated schemes of work to ensure that the aims and objectives for the teaching of Art are delivered

· To monitor and track pupils’ achievements at regular intervals subject to the instructions of the Head of Department or of other senior colleagues

· To secure and sustain effective teaching of the subject, evaluate the quality of teaching and standards of pupils’ achievements, and set targets for improvement

· To ensure the discipline and safety of all pupils in the assigned groups and classes

· To deliver high quality teaching and learning as well as curriculum development across the Key Stages

· To keep up-to-date about subject development and to take part in in-service training for this purpose, disseminating to other colleagues where appropriate

· Participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for internal and external examinations

· Make provision for pupils of differing ability in all subjects

· Create a stimulating class environment which promotes effective teaching and learning and that encourages pupils to feel empowered and take ownership of their learning

· To work collaboratively with the Art technician to ensure they can effectively perform their role supporting teaching and learning and carrying out their other duties within the Art Department

· Provide opportunities for the use of digital technology within the curriculum

· Create a culture of achievement where students wish to do their best and are rewarded for doing so

· To perform the roles and responsibilities of a form tutor and work closely with pastoral team to provide pastoral care and support the wellbeing of all pupils under their care

· To teach PSHE as part of the pastoral support programme

· To demonstrate and inspire an enthusiastic and committed approach to extra-curricular and enrichment activities

· To participate in departmental, and other, meetings which relate to the curriculum and organisation of the school

· To take part in the review, development and management of activities relating to the curriculum and organisation of the school, including supporting development and improvement plans

· To consult and liaise with parents and attend meetings arranged for that purpose

· To participate in professional development and training as required

· To be involved in the development and delivery of extra-curricular activities and enrichment opportunities across the Key Stages

· To work collaboratively with other members of the school, both within the curriculum and beyond. This includes off site facilities and school residential trips

· To identify appropriate resources for the subject and ensure that they are used efficiently, effectively and safely

· To develop and implement subject policies, plans, targets and practices within the con

· Participate in the break duty rota, as assigned

· Undertake cover duties for colleagues, as assigned

· To carry out such other duties as are necessary to meet the needs of the school and its pupils as directed by the Head of Senior School and Principal

Person Specification

Essential experience, skills and abilities

· A recognised teaching qualification, for example, a PGCE or a BEd.

· At least three years’ experience in a UK School (preferably) or experience teaching the British curriculum including GCSEs and A levels overseas

· Experience of teaching Art and Design across all key stages

· Excellent IT skills

· The ability to work with a range of pupils at all levels

· Experience of teaching pupils with English as an additional language

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a good sense of humour

· Enthusiasm that inspires others

· Positivity and perseverance

· A desire to work in an international environment

Desirable experience, skills and abilities

· Experience teaching AQA Art and Design at GCSE and/or A Level

· Experience of teaching another subject
