Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a biology teacher to work with a passion for supporting pupils to reach their full potential.

Moffat Academy is a rural all through school in Dumfries and Galloway catering for over 550 pupils from 3 -18 in the nursery, primary and secondary departments. The school benefits from being in a new school building and is situated on the main motorway network some 22 miles from Dumfries but within easy commuting distance from the central belt. A significant number of staff commute daily.

The school motto is Ready, Aye Ready and we believe in providing a dynamic environment where all staff and pupils are challenged and supported to ensure pupils reach their full potential academically - but also in terms of wider achievement and participation. The school has a very strong reputation for ensuring positive destinations for our young people with very high numbers progressing to further and Higher education.

A distinctive feature of the school is the emphasis given to ensuring high quality seamless transitions through the different sectors to ensure effective curriculum planning, assessment and progression from 3-18. The school fosters strong partnership working between staff in the different stages of the school, within our cluster and with parents and supportive community partners. We are part of a small cluster arrangement with Beattock Primary and this ensures a consistent approach for all our young people.

A significant relocation package of up to £5,000 is available to the successful candidate.

Applicants for teaching posts must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland, Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UT in the appropriate sector.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.  From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
