Job overview

This post is offered as a result of retirement and expansion in the science faculty’s provision.  This post is permanent full-time however part-time would be considered.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, imaginative and innovative teacher to our strong and successful team. We would like a creative, reflective and adaptive person. The college prides itself on having supportive, reflective, creative and ambitious staff who work to achieve the best outcomes for students. We treat our staff and students with respect, listen to both and involve all in our continuous improvement. Staff and student feedback are embedded in our systems.

The post is open to any suitable applicant, including newly-qualified teachers.  The successful candidate will be required to teach A level Biology and it would be highly desirable to be able to contribute to the teaching of one or more of the other courses offered by the department: BTEC Level 3 Applied Science, BTEC Level 2 Applied Science or Level 3 Diploma in Medical Science. Teachers in the faculty are expected to be able to contribute to the teaching of more than one course.

There are currently approximately 150 students taking A level Biology.  The successful applicant will be teaching classes in both year 1 and year 2.  Students follow the OCR Biology A specification.  Applied Science and Medical Science are very successful courses with approximately 120 students in total, many of whom going on to a wide range of science-based destinations. We are excited to be introducing a Level 3 Foundation programme in September which will include Level 2 Applied Science with the intention of students continuing to Level 3 the following year, and then to positive destinations when they complete.

The Science Faculty is well resourced and has six modern laboratories, two of which are specialist Biology laboratories with electronic white boards. These rooms are linked to a Biology prep. room and staff work area. Applied General classes are able to use a lab which has a class set of computers.

You will join two Biology specialists, along with a wider Science team of 8 other teaching colleagues, including Chemistry, Physics, Applied Science and Health and Social Care specialists, who work together to deliver the courses.  There is a specialist Biology technician who works with two other Science technicians

This is an exciting time to be joining our Specialist Sixth Form College as we develop partnership links across the education sector.  We are pleased to be the founding College in the Better Futures Multi Academy Trust with Coventry University and are looking forward to an exciting future.

King Edward VI College Nuneaton is a Sixth Form College that was established in 1974 on the site of King Edward VI Grammar School in Nuneaton. The College now has approximately 1,350 students aged 16-19 years and 130 staff and is growing yearly.

King Edward VI College Nuneaton prides itself on a friendly, personal approach and its ability to maintain a high level of success for all its students.

One of the reasons for the success of the college is that students enjoy studying here, and the proportion of students completing their courses continues to be excellent and amongst the highest in the country.

If student achievement is compared to their achievement at GCSE, calculations using official government measures of what is known as "value added" show our students to be achieving as well or better than would be expected from their starting point.

All our staff are committed to giving students the best possible learning experience in their period in college and we aim to continue in the future the successes achieved by our students.
