Birkdale High SchoolSouthport

Headteacher: Mr G Y Bourgade

Permanent Full-Time Contract – September 2021

(NQT-RQT;  £25,714 - £27,600)

Birkdale High School is a popular and successful all-boys 11-16 comprehensive Academy with an excellent reputation, outstanding pastoral care and consistently above national average academic results.

The school has seen its numbers rise over the last few years and was officially oversubscribed last year.

At Birkdale we aim to be leaders in the education of boys and this starts with a clear focus on developing effective teaching driven by a focus on cognitive science and educational research and our quality assurance is developmental rather than judgemental. Our teachers are given the space and support to make positive changes to their practice in a risk-free environment; we watch each other teach, share best practice and are eager to accept our professional obligation to improve methods of embedding the knowledge our boys need.

The Physical Education Department at Birkdale High School is a committed, collaborative and hard-working team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a department that has worked hard over the years to develop an inclusion-based, challenging curriculum and provide an extensive range of extra-curricular opportunities for our boys. With a wide range of equipment and facilities available, the department offers a variety of activities to all our students and all of our extra-curricular clubs and practices are ‘open-access’ in nature, enabling every pupil to maximise his rate of involvement in physical activity. We also ensure that all of our pupils receive a broad and balanced curriculum during the foundation stage and prepare them well for the pursuit of courses in OCR GCSE Physical Education and Cambridge National Diploma in Sports Studies in the examination phase of their development.

We take great pride in our high standards and continual sporting successes at local, regional and national levels and we are therefore looking for an outstanding, extremely committed Newly/Recently Qualified Teacher of Physical Education with high expectations to make significant contributions towards the ongoing development of this outstanding and highly successful team. Whilst the successful candidate will be expected to be able to deliver all aspects of the PE Curriculum, a specific requirement of the advertised role is the ability to teach Rugby and Cricket to an excellent standard. The leadership of extra-curricular programmes and opportunities in these two areas will also be expected.

The appointed candidate is required to join from 1 September 2021.

Appointments are subject to the successful candidate obtaining a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure (via the Disclosure Barring Service).

Further details and an application form can be downloaded from www.birkdalehigh.co.uk or obtained from Ms Karen Anslow at the school.  Completed application forms should be emailed to recruitment@birkdalehigh.co.uk by 12 noon on Friday 16 April 2021.

Interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place week commencing Monday 26 April 2021.

Birkdale High School safeguards children and actively promotes their welfare.  We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  All posts are subject to the acquisition of an enhanced DBS certificate with barred list information through the Disclosure and Barring Service and further checks as required. All teaching positions will also be subject to a prohibition order check.
