Business Studies Department Information

Our busy and popular department offers GCSE Business, A Level Business, A Level Economics and the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business.

The Department follows the Edexcel specification for the Business subjects and OCR for A Level Economics. A popular choice at both levels, we have three sets of GCSE Business in Fourth Form and Fifth Form and two sets of A Level Business and Economics in Lower and Upper Sixth.

We teach over half the Sixth Form cohort and are delighted that so many opt to progress into related degrees for undergraduate study.

Expectations are high and this is reflected in student achievement. We are proud of our excellent results and the high value added we achieve. We welcome any student to study our subjects, regardless of previous academic achievement.

We are a hardworking and creative team of five who work collaboratively and are committed to providing high quality and enjoyable lessons. We have a wealth of shared resources, interlinking these with current news articles to bring the subject to life.

The successful applicant will predominantly teach Business Studies at GCSE and A Level but may also be required to support colleagues with the Extended Diploma.

About Cokethorpe School

Cokethorpe is an independent, day school for boys and girls aged four to eighteen, set in 150 acres of glorious Oxfordshire parkland, just two miles south of Witney and ten miles to the west of Oxford.

The School is unique in many ways; not only is our setting unsurpassed but we are also one of the only co-educational day schools in Oxfordshire with both Prep and Senior schools on the same site.

At the heart of our School is the belief that our pupils dig deeper, reach higher, and stretch further when they feel the embrace of supportive peers and the oversight of enthusiastic and experienced teachers who know when and how to challenge them. This sense of community is fostered by the close-knit House system where young people develop a deep sense of belonging; it is forged around the close, working relationship of the small classrooms, where teachers engage the intellect, encourage students to grapple with ideas, and teach lifelong respect and humility.

We are a happy, strong and vibrant community, in which individuals are generous of spirit, inspire friendship and support one another. Our teachers, pupils and parents value the School's small class sizes and emphasis on delivering liberal educational principles in an environment that celebrates individual achievements equally, whatever their passions might be.
